[Q] How does one properly report a sighted contact?
GWX2.1/Sh3C/OLCE
see title. I'm tracking a convoy of 8 ships atm, but I have no torpedoes so I was wondering if I could report the contacts somehow so the Luftwaffe/other subs/surface ships could possibly take advantage of the weak escort. |
Click on the Radio operator's station, you should have an option to Send Contact report.
There's also an option to "Report Contacts" , but I'm not sure what's the difference between this and the former. Maybe Report contacts is for convoys and Send Contact report is for a lone ship? |
The contact report function from the message clipboard has never really worked for me, so I've always used the radio operator menu. If there's a Luftwaffe base in the area, you might see a response, but usually nothing happens. One time I saw a spectacular air attack, and that was because my target convoy was near Malta, a easy flight from Sicily.
Mach's gut! |
"Schiff gesichtet!"
:smug: |
Make sure your watch officer has seen at least three of the ships first.
lock on ships then use your radio officer to sent contact report. All being well,Goering will let his fly boys try to sink them. Just possible that some u-boats will turn up and help but don't hold your breath. |
Lock on ships? Do you mean lock one in the periscope view, click send contact report. Lock another, send report e.t.c ?
Then, what's the Report Contacts button for? And how does that differ from Send Contact report? |
Report contacts asks the radio operator to report any radio contacts.
Some say it works... Maybe in TC1 - and when you ask for a report, the game switches to the map view and shows the recently transmitted contacts. Send contacts orders the radio operator to send actual sightings to the BdU. It works after your watch officer has reported three visible contacts of a convoy. Dependant on your location an axis airstrike is possible. |

Luftwaffe apparently won't get out of bed for less that 3 ship convoys. |
Wow maybe I should actually put a member of the crew at that station. I thought it was completely useless before radar.

After I read on subsim how to report convoys I do it like this - I manually ID as many ships as I can (meaning when I later put my periscope / UZO on target it's name displays in notepad) then I order radioman to report a contact.
I don't know if giving names is necessary or what will happen if I ID some or all ship incorrectly. I have a question on a similar matter - when I click on first icon from radioman options (I only know Polish term, 'meldunek') he usually responds 'no new radio messagges'. But recently couple of times he told me 'closest radio contact 1400km, bearing 221' or 'closest radio contact 92,71 km, bearing 63'. What is that? |
:hmmm:How's this for an Air Armada ? :DL
