Class Differences?
Well, while stating that I am a new guy around here is unnecessary, I just did that. Yey me.
I recently got the opportunity to change from a Tambor to a Gato and took it. The result was, me getting a sub which couldn't cruise as long underwater as the "old rust bucket" I traded for her. My test at running a S-18 only netted me a couple of casualties due to CO2-Poisoning. So, I'm guessing the classes differ in more than just in numbers of torpedo-tubes. It would be nice if anyone could point me to a list of the differences or at least confirm if there are differences in dive times, ranges (surfaced&submerged), turning speeds, submerged-time totals or what ever else has been noticed. Am Playing Stock 1.4 for now. Lessing the chances of me hitting&sinking things, didn't look favorable. |
Welcome to the forums ! Once past the S-Class, If my memory serves me, you won't find any major differences with the exception of the Narwal, it has a much increased range. In case I'm wrong, here's a link to a thread where there is more info.

The Tambor class was the first with 6 tubes forward instead of 4. The Gato and the Balao built upon the Tambor class and the only real gaming differences is the Gato can dive deeper than the Tambor, and the Balao can dive deeper than the Gato.
The Tambors were the newest boats in service when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor and the US entered WWII. The Gatos got in service pretty quickly after that. |
Thanks.

Thanks Nisgeis, I just hope to be more comfortable on board soon. In the meantime, I'm going to rename the bulkheads to bangshead.:damn:
