open letter to Gorshkov about your mod
sir i was watching your progress on torpedos and i thought you were definately on track with the way it should be done.
i would like to ask you to continue your work and not deny the large part of this community from having the ability to use your mod just because a select few discouraged you. if you do decide to continue, i think it would be better if you do not start compairing it to the rfb mod or allow others to do so in your thread because your mod is not intended for use with or about rfb mod and it is bound to cause friction. after your mod is finished and you have the results you want, then you can see how it might work with other mods through testing and tweak if needed. you stated your mod was intended for the stock game and opinions about other mods (while valid) should not matter to you. only your opinion is what counts and do what you feel is right for the game. the true test will be in how many actually use your mod. modding by group concensus is very hard if not impossible to do. i believe the thread you had went wrong the minute you let it become my mod vs rfb as to who is right about torpedos and damages. please do your own thing and if the rfb modders dont agree then so what, thats their opinion and you have yours. i think there was some blame on everyone involved who allowed it to become personal. so remember, there will always be those who disagree with you but if you give up and go away then you allow others to win. i would like to ask you to continue your work because there are many who think it was a very good idea and want to see it continue. webster |
I concur ! :yep:
keep on working on it ! keltos |
While I decided I disagreed with many of his assumptions (after actually analyzing the data on sinkings he presented), I found the thread interesting. I was honestly surprised at the way the data come out—German torpedoes not being much (if at all) better than the mk14 (reliability aside). I was sorry to see the thread closed.
He tended to attack personally at every opportunity, however. I think my disagreements were pretty even-handed. I'm fine with anyone modding, and I think that the best possible way is to be open about what you are doing and why. The community in general benefits from the open transfer of information, agree or disagree with the intent. |
My last post on this forum - written only because of creation of this thread.
As I said before I am not interested in further developing and sharing of real torpedo damage mod for SH4 (aside of my personal usage) and especially here due to vast amount of ignorance and even ordinary lies I received from some guys. Three latest examples are enough to drop contributing in both SH4 modding scene and this forum: 1. Tater's "data" about torpedo efficiency against large merchants - I checked all 129 valid examples of U-boat attacks on Liberty-class ships during 1942-1945 period. On average 1,76 torpedo was needed to destroy one Liberty merchant! However much more important fact is decreasing of this coefficient during the war as follows: - 1942: 2,1 - first half of 1943: 2,2 - second half of 1943: 1,77 - 1944: 1,4 - 1945: 1,2 That is all as for his idiocy propagated here! 2. AVG_Warhawk's ordinary lie that "Shinano" carrier was not a crappy ship! In fact it was crappy what is well documented and respected fact amongst naval historians. It's a shame that forum moderator used such poor humbug in discussion due to lack of proper arguments! 3. Reading also closed thread about reflection's in water I found identical behavior of the same group of guys mainly associated with RFB mod: deliberate assault on person i.e. Reno with opposite point of view! He summarized what is going on here in this brilliant sentence: "All I'm seeing here is a bunch of primadonnas who try to shout down anyone else with an opposing opinion.". Nothing more is needed to add. I can only say there is rather a sect which members would burn others with "unpopular" opinions at the stake! In sum I was shocked with reaction of certain group of persons against my work: messed up data, lies, calls to boycott me (RR bozo was apparently trying to intimidate me two times: "Be good or we ignore you!" - indeed very good tactic maybe on Bolshevik party congress under Stalin but not in XXI century!) and finally personal insults. Yes, I know truth can disturb some persons whose work was based on false assumptions and now it can be clearly seen as derision, not REALITY as they claim. So the easiest way of defense is amassed verbal assault on such person to deprive him will to continue his "disloyal" work in line with ancient proverb: "Nec Hercules contra plures". Then "the only real group of naval professionals" will remain uncontested. I admit you achieved this goal in my case. However I think many other people reading this an other posts here also understand it will be better to stay away from such persons like you! Farewell! PS. I did not find in User CP an option to delete my user account so do it yourselves - your last "victory"! |
You know, it's OK to disagree with someone without calling them "idiots" instead of presenting arguments.
There have been many heated debates on numerous subjects here, and most of us that have had them could still sit down over beers—and have the same arguments. In general I think people are well-served to behave as if the argument was happening at a dinner party, or over beers at the pub. tater |
Really nothing more to add to this. Everyone knows how everyone feels and now everyone can get on with their lives.
Subsim.com can certainly get along without the drama. JCC |
