Lifeboats are modeled in the game? I've never seen one like that. When do they appear after a sinking?

Okay allright whats the matter here ?! :) As for me you can roleplay taking them up aboard feed and warm them if u're not affraid of sabotage. Leaving them in the middle of the ocean is some sort of animality too :)

In the novel Das Boot, Buchheim talks about a captain who shot up the life boats before they were lowered. Anybody know the historical validity of that story?

I think it is the U 515 under Werner Henke
Henke was shot trying to escape from a POW camp.

I will try to find it

Dutchie-one :damn:

Sorry wrong name it is Heinz-Wilhelm Eck of U 852 together with 2 of his officers

@Tachyon

Try this link http://hosted.filefront.com/priater/

You'll need "lifeboats" and the "rowers". Just enable the rowers AFTER the lifeboats :)

cheers

Well, they usually die of thirst, over-exposure to the sun (in the tropic) or cold (in north Atlantic), first. Many sailors survive the attack only to die later of thirst in Open Ocean.

See the Story about SS City of Cairo.

From wiki;
'The sinking Peleus left a large debris field, amongst which were a number of survivors clinging to rafts and wreckage. This field would have betrayed the presence of the U-852 to aircraft and shipping patrolling the area, so Eck then controversially decided to destroy the wreckage with the use of hand grenades and automatic weapons.
As a result of this action, all but three of Peleus's crew perished.'
