ARRRGGHH!

My copy of SH 4 arrived today. Wasn't the gold version, so I installed the 1.4 update after installing.

Tried running the training menu. Crahed as soon as I did anything more than look around. Ok, turn all game graphic sliders to minimum. Still crashes. Turn down hardware acceleration - too far, now 3d engine won't load. Notch it up so 3D loads, still crashes. Audio acceleration to minimum - STILL crashes! Arrgghh!

Running Win 2000 Pro, SP4
AMD 3300
1024 MB RAM
Radeon 9600 128 MB ram
Game installed on drive with 24 gigs free space

Any suggestions?

Make sure your graphics card driver is up to date.

Make sure direct X is up to date.

You don't even have enough RAM to run the operating system. You'll never be able to run the game.........

Pick up 4 gigs of Ram and try from there.

claybirdd 11-21-08 11:28 PM

2 gigs will work though.

and a 512 card

SH IV does not run with 128 MB card...I have tried. 256 is the minimum.

*Sigh* Ok, I guess I'll have to upgrade vid card and memory. Great - more time in port!

Sledgehammer427 11-22-08 12:25 PM

better that than a game crashing, IMO

Loud_Silence 11-22-08 05:16 PM

That graphics card is not enough. SHIV has normal system requirements today but i remember it was system-hungry when it was released.
You need at least a X16** or 8*** card, with 256 MB or more. CPU gets a bit short for this game, and RAM certainly is not enough, especially if its DDR1.:(

Ok, ordered 2 gigs of memory today, and am looking at 512MB cards. Thinking about an ATI 1650 - any cards I should stay away from?

CaptainHaplo 11-23-08 10:33 AM

I am running a 1650 currently - its a decent cheap card nowadays. Will play most games on medium detail - SH4 near max as long as you dont set the resolution too high.

Depends on your budget - check pricewatch.com if your in the USA. Newegg and TigerDirect are good sources. If your looking to spend under $50 your limited - but $100 gets you a good solid card with growth room. The 1650 doesnt have much of that anymore.

Suggest a mod may want to move this to the tech forum.

The ancient one runs the game just fine with one GB of RAM and a 8800GT. Disabling all the bloatware XP runs reduced the XP footprint to 160 MB and allowed me get along on 1GB.

How much RAM are you running on the card?

Deep-Six 11-24-08 10:37 AM

I recently updated my syst and it maxed everything to a high settings. I do plan on installing SH4 on Vista side of things and will post plcs. My machine is dual booted.:D

bookworm_020 11-24-08 09:00 PM

Your OS might be a problem as well. Win2000 I don't think supports the game. Might be an idea to update to XP or (I can't believe I'm saying this!)Vista.

2GB of RAM is the basic amount you will need to run the game well, and a good graphics card!

Task Force 11-24-08 09:14 PM

Ya know, vista realy isnt as bad is everyone says it is, Im running vista on my machine and get great FPS on SH4. (usualy 60-70fps) With RFB and PE4, settings maxed out.:D
