War submarines movies

Hi,

I can't find the thread about the movie so there is an other.

I'm watching right know on the german television, a old sub movie.

There is it:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050478/

Probably unknowed by many people(including me lol) but it's a very good movie. All sub scenes filmed on a real U boot but I don't know what U-boot exactly.

Hope you can found it somewhere...

;)

Probably depending what you like in a war submarines movie.
That means I can only answering about my own appreciation.
Personnaly, I like it because it's a typical war movie from de 50's, there is not to many blood, there is not to many special effects, a great part of real about submarines, destroyers, cars, etc, and also some big actors if you know them a little.
IE Wolgang Preiss who plays Max Pemsel in "The longest day".

If I must compare with another similar movie I think it's also good as "Morituri" another 'must' in your collection.

Probably better if we can understand all words 'cause I don't speak german very well lol.

Sharks and Little Fish (1957) by Wolfgang Ott is an historic novel.

I have both the book and the DVD, which was released in 2003 of a movie made some time near the release of the book. In my humble opinion, the book is much better than the movie, a whole lot more detail and information. The movie follows the story line of the book but the movie ending is somewhat different, from what I remember.

Opinion here: buy the book, pass on the movie.

Here is a recommendation:

The Enemy Below (1957) by D A Rayner, an historical novel and a movie from 1957 that was released on DVD in 2004. A great book and a much better produced U-boat warfare movie than Sharks and Little Fish.

Of course the book is always better than a movie.

I don't see people sitting in a showhouse for 3 days watching the book version.

Have you guys seen "The Last U-boat" ? Saw it when I was a kid, great movie.

Storyline :

It's almost the end of the war, and a U-boat leaves for Japan carrying Plutonium. En route, they learn that Germany has surrendered. The crew is now divided as to whether to proceed to Japan or surrender to the Allies.

That's all I remember of the story, plus some Destroyer chase e.t.c. I saw the english dub. But I have no idea where to find this movie today.
