copyright protection

hi everybody,

many thanks for the warm welcome!

i'm getting a lot of conflicting messages regarding the copyright protection that is installed with SHIII. some say it is no problem, most say it is malware and does things to your machine?!
the computer i use is for games only, i have only a dvd reader, no internet. is it something to worry about or is it cool?

thanks

subdude

Hi subdude :sunny: I've been playing SHIII since it came out and not a problem 1 with my DVD player\burner.

Or for that matter anything else.

For some it causes problems for some it doesnt.

I've noticed that if not using Nero to burn my CD's, I usually end up wasting 1 or 2 CD's because of an burn error and this DOES happen on Nero too, but if I use slow burn speed it burns ok. Dont know if that's because of the CP, but that's the stuff I've heard about it.

Didn't cause any problems here, I removed it(the copy protection, not SH3) right after installing.

Greetings to Helsinki, one of my favorite cities. Sorry to be a noob, but could you please let me know how you de-installed the copy protection. I tried with the StarForce removal tool but I seem to still have it installed. I wouldn't complain except it seems to take a fairly long while on my new fast computer to check the disk each time I want to play. Thanks and cheers,

I'm quite sure that belongs to Subsim's SSSSSH! department, but yes the Starforce removal tool(the official one) is the second part. For the first part you'll have to Google around a bit.

The Starforce Removal Tool is perfectly legal because it is made by the creators of Starforce.

Trouble is, every single time you put your SH3 DVD back into the drive, it runs a check and reinstalls Starforce if it is missing.

Nothing you can do about it besides seeking your own solution. New versions of the SH3 game do not have Starforce. Finding a copy to purchase may not be easy for a game that's nearly four years old.

Google might turn up something.

I lost not just one but two DVD drives in the space of 6 months. I banned Starforce from my computer and have not had one single problem with my DVD drive in over two years since.

Newer copies of SH III don't have Starforce & can be picked up cheap. I picked one up from NWS here: http://yhst-12000246778232.stores.yahoo.net/ a few months ago. I paid about 10 bucks US & it came pre-patched. There are no disk checks or codes to keep (for reinstallation) and once the game is installed you don't need the dvd to play your game.
