Good video. Especially the music :D

There's another easy AOB finding method, if you know the target's course. Set your course perpendicular to the course of target. Set your periscope or UZO to the bearing 0. Set the AOB to 90 and make sure you have the TDC turned on before you move the perisciope. As long as you maintain the course, and have the TDC on, you will have correct AOB for any ship moving on the same course. Good for convoys. :yep:

thanks, i particularly like the ending

Nice work GR!!!

Have you got a downloadable version? Would be nice to have.

I keep a folder for collecting targetting method material.

(I imagine others do as well.)

Very Well done both in content & production.

Would like your permission to mirror in SHA..

GoldenRivet Profile, GoldenRivet Details - FileFront.com

I think it is there.

plus a paper plotting tutorial I had LONG forgotten about

so if anyone is also interested in doing plots on paper, there is a decent starter method.

I personaly thinks its very easy and intuitive to understand...the steps have the information you need...just one thing i dont apreciated much the music...but the must important of all is THERE!

Great job!

I got sidetracked by the Pink Panther music. And now I got to watch it again. :) ... Oops, this is not on youtube as you requested.

Btw how did the real guys do it? They couln't have marked an x, wait a minute, then mark another x, like we do in the game. Just a general idea would be fine.

GoldenRivet 11-12-08 07:09 PM

one process that could be used

1. Observe target through scope
2. note bearing and range
3. plot the bearing and range to target on a piece of paper
4. after a few minutes make a second observation of bearing and range
5. plot the second observation on paper
6. then calculate target speed based on distance covered and time it took
7. AOB could be roughly estimated
8. shoot

something like that

i was feeling a bit "loopy" so the pink panther music felt appropriately goofy

i was going to put in something all dark and haunting for music but i decided to throw you a curve

Interesting :hmm:

The real guys just looked at the target and estimated AOB - and i think it's just not that hard to do in the game after a bit of practice

however with the earlier monocular periscope German kaleuns also used the aspect ratio in conjunction with the split-prism stadimeter to calculate AOB, a method simulated in the U-jagd tools mod

plotting was not so easy without a good aob estimate because getting accurate range estimates at long ranges was not so easy - you didn't know the exact mast-height of the target so plots may have taken a long time, and you didn't have automatic map contact updates either. But knowing aob can help with the long-range plot a lot, and again the aob is best guestimated by looking at it
