Worlds Largest Model RC Planes

I want to work at NASA, they have all the fun.

This was the king of RC planes before the X-48B

I remember going to a model airplane show and there was a guy there with a plane that looked like a freakin lawn mower. The thing actually flew too. I'll see if i can find some pictures of it to post.
I used to fly model planes and go to shows all the time and I've seen some HUGE model planes. I think the biggest I ever saw was a Boeing 747 model that was bigger than my car.

*edit*
Here's a link about the flying lawn mower. There's a link to a video of it in flight on the page too.

That's one way to mow your grass... I like how he used the handle bars as tail fins.

I have an RC field close to me and seen some really nice WWII fighter planes flown the by some good pilots. But the best was a large bell helicopter, this thing was 4' long. He almost took us out with it (the side line crowd) and lost control in the end and broke the tail off.

I stopped going when all the small box planes were out, these thing flew off the prop and really didn't need wings.

It's been years ago (too many years), but I once saw pictures of a guy who flew his 4 year old daughter around in a very large RC plane.:nope: I certainly am glad he was a better RC pilot than I was:rotfl:

Great videos... this reminds me of my childhood fantasy to re-enact the Battle of Britain with R/C planes. Imagine the skies filled with Heinkels, Messerschmitts, Stukas, Hurricanes & Spitfires! Using an BB tommy-gun at an amusement park got me thinking -- Yeah, shoot 'em down, too! The R/C pilots & gunners would have to follow them in helicopters... Neeeooow, PLONK!

I never used to do RC. I DID used to fly control line model planes. In the competitions, I used to fly a thing called Combat where a paper streamer would be tied to the back of the plane and the object was to stand back to back with your opponent and try to clip the streamer off the tail of his plane without the two of you getting your lines tangled. You sometimes had to do some interesting gymnastics while competing to keep the other guys line from catching and wrapping around your line or you.

I also used to fly in a competition called Carrier where you would have a scale control line controlled model warplane, take it off from a ramp, make it fly around in a circle as fast as possible for several turns, then make it go around as slow as you possibly could so it was just hanging in the air for so many turns and then you had to land it back on the ramp. I STILL have my old Carrier plane and one of my old Combat planes but they havn't flown in years.

I have seen a video of a jet powered B-52 R/C model some guy over here built. So big it needed CAA approval. Anyway he crashed it on first flight. There was an investigation and everything.

He reuilt it and recrashed it...
