After Kirk's "death", nothing phases me anymore.

Real Jaques Piccard is not fictional Jean-Luc Picard.

Patrick Stewart. I have the pleasure of dining out with him on 7th after his lecture.

In 1960, Piccard and US co-pilot Don Walsh took a submersible developed by his father to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific.
They went 11km (seven miles) beneath the surface of the sea.
Their discovery of living organisms at that depth led to a ban on the dumping of nuclear waste in ocean trenches.
I came here to post the news, but found Skybird's topic...thx, man.

Gnnnnnaaaaaa :88) - For the third time now - this thread has nothing to do with Star Trek. Both Pic(c)ards are two very different persons!!!!!

But just for curiosity, what has Miliband to do with Patrick Stewart?

Miliband is my home town MP (as well as the UK Foreign Secretary) and every year he sponsors a famous/well known personality to visit his constituency (in what has become known as The South Shields Lecture....link below) to deliver a speech on a topic of their choosing.

It's become a bit of a circus IMO, but I'm invited because of my position within our local community and because Miliband is a friend of mine.

Last year it was Tony Blair and the year before, Ken Livingstone.

I believe the theme Patrick has chosen is a one of praise for the NHS.....his life was once saved by them when he needed a blood transfusion in an emergency as a result of an accident.

Good to know so that I could bit my lips just in time. Political disagreements, you know. If you have the opportunity, ask Stewart why he left stage and changed to movies and TV. I'd really like to know his answer, cause I think he is a good actor.

You lucky Bastard Jim!!:cry::cry: I'm so jealous!!:yep:

Jimbuna 11-03-08 04:06 AM

I'll let you all into a little secret.

When asked where he would like to eat his response was "Somewhere typically British".

So.......no, we are not going to an Indian restaurant but actually to a fish and chip restaurant near the sea front (500 yards from a beach).

Can anyone lend me a bucket and spade.

Reece 11-03-08 04:40 AM

If you haven't seen the film I suggest you do, of the many versions, his portrayal of Captain Ahab in "Moby Dick" is the best IMO.
