Dead Space, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 - Opinions Please!

Can I have your opinions on these titles? Dead Space, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3

Primarily, storyline, immersion, re-playabilty, online & built in features are of importance.

I am not bothered about Performance, as I know my hardware can handle it.

I have been hearing good & bad things about Dead Space & Far Cry 2 but if I am honest, they don't come from people with adultly informed opinions.;)

If you have either/all of these (I know FO3 ain't out yet) please offer your thoughts.

Thanks.

Dont own Dead Space.. YET. But as for Far Cry 2, it was a great surprise TBH.

I liked:
- True open gameworld, you can go where you want.
- Performance vs. quality factor is great on the Dunia engine, nothing like Crysis, it runs smoothly.
- Huge amounts of weapons, something like 30+ or so
- Sounds are great, especially the weapons sound very cool. Not the Hollywood stuff, but more of a "mechanic" sounds, yet ballsy.
- Gore. You see your enemies screaming and crying on the ground, trying to get up after a short burst from your gun, and of course, you can go and shoot them to the head with a colt 1911 if you feel like it. :p Also, when your health bar goes down so you have only one bar remaining, you see a special animation when you press the heal button (this varies from fixing dislocated arm/leg, pulling a piece of branch out of your body, digging out a bullet etc. all with nice a crizzly sound effects.).
- Immersion. Your head is "locked" to your body all the time, there's no teleportation to a vehicle, you actually climb on board. Same for everything you can think of except for sleeping.
- Lot to do, the gameworld is huge and it gets even bigger when you progress. There's lots of side missions to keep you busy aswell as the mainstory missions, where you usually have 2 options to choose from.
- FIRE! Ooooh, it's so darn cool!

Things I didnt like:
- THE FRICKING MALARIA!!! When the game starts, you have malaria. You need to make special missions when you're out of pills to get more, or else you will start getting blurry screen etc. and finally you pass out and are carried to the nearest doctor (who by the way doesnt even give you more pills!)
- Can be boring at times, the missions are the usual "Go to the other side of the map, kill one guy and come back".

That's what I can remember atm. I'm sure Stabiz will come shortly to give his views on it.

I'll get back to you prolly tomorrow about FO3 & DS. *whistles innocently* :D

I would drop Dead Space if you go for the PC variant:

but in General: its a usual EA game, and comes with the horrible EA sh!tpackage -

from Wikipedia:
Quote:

The PC version of Dead Space uses the same SecuRom Copy Protection scheme as Spore and Mass Effect which requires both online authentication and limits the number of times a user can install the game to five. Dead Space has received mixed reviews by gamers regarding DRM. [15]As of October 29, 2008 out of 46 reviews it has an average rating of one and a half stars
Fall Cry 2 seems to be in good taste around here. seems worth to check out.

Far Cry 2 has SecuRom aswell. :p

Personally, I've been waiting for DS. Doom 3 was good, but not great. I'm hoping DS get's more out of the horror part than going into a mindless shooting with only scary part being some 3 eyed twut jumping from around a corner and going "BOOOO!!!".

Raptor1 10-28-08 12:07 PM

I've heard many good things about FC2 (as opposed to say, Crysis ), so I will probably get it too as soon as Fallout 3 comes out around here (next week, I think)

I won't be getting Dead Space, probably, I've had it up to...here...with that DRM at the moment

EDIT: But doesn't FarCry 2 have the ability to uninstall the game and get your activation back?

I shall judge it when I play it. :yep: Tho, I have to confess, I felt bit unease seeing it was made by EA. :-?

danlisa 10-28-08 12:27 PM

Don't make this about DRM, I couldn't give 2 sh*t's about it.

Base your opinion on the merit of the game only.

Nice write up Dowly.
What's FC2's Map Editor like?
Also, what do think about losing all your weapons etc on the second play through?

The map editor is VERY simple, but sadly, you can only make multiplayer maps with it. :-? Anyways, dont know if you've ever played the simcity games, the map editor is almost identical to Sim City's terrain editor. Just select the tool/texture and paint.

EDIT: Ow yeh, and it's not the "full" editor the devs used. It's very simplificied version, there's no triggers, particles or anything you can do with it. Just the basic stuff like mountains, ground textures, roads and trees.

As for losing everything, wouldnt know, I'm only 50% thru the first play through. :p But if that's the case, it would suck, badly. You do missions for the arms dealer to unlock new items, the missions are piece of cake, but it's the distances that make them boring and time consuming.

AJ! 10-28-08 01:13 PM

Yeah i would love to know what dead space is like. I do like a good horror game and DS looks as gory as they come :D

I`ll just second this. I am one of those bitter old (well, thirty:)) men who hate all new games because they ... suck. FarCry 2 could be better, and it probably will be once modders tear it apart, but like Dowly I was surprised to find that I liked one of the blockbuster titles. I have spent 23 hours in Africa now, and I am not fed up yet.

If you liked FarCry up until the monsters came (I actually liked killing them too, hehe) you will like this one as well. No fake freedom like in Crysis, and very immersive enviroment. + 1090 points for pyro stuff, it never gets old. When a molotov or flare gun cheat is available I am going to torch the entire continent.:rotfl:

-100 points for no fire mode switch and bulletholes disappearing in bodies

Processor requirments are too high on all counts.

kiwi_2005 10-28-08 06:40 PM

Far cry 2 wont be getting till i do another upgrade I think she will run on the pc specs i have now but with detail not on full and i want to play this game with detail on full! :damn:

Fallout 3 arrives here in 3 days time :damn:

Dead space um never heard of it :88)

SUBMAN1 10-28-08 08:02 PM

Installing Fallout 3 right now. DVD is 5.51 GB or so. Probably means it unpacks to 8 to 10 GB.
