Dead Stop

While on patrol in the Celebes Sea I had a shot with my last torpedo at a Medium Old Merchant. The crew was a sharp eyed bunch and sighted me as I slipped under the waves. I finally thought I had the zig zag pattern down but the dang ship turned as I fired. The torpedo almost missed the target but expolded in the extreme rear of the ship.

Low on fuel I had no chance to chase it down and without torpedoes I was resigned to sadly watching the ship steam away. I was amazed to see the ship stop dead as if it had slammed on the brakes. A camera view shows why, it is awful hard to sail away without a propeller. My hit blew a big hole in the stern and carried away the propeller! I watched it flood and slip under the waves adding another kill flag to our boat.

Nice shot! Last torpedoes stress you out like nothing else, especially when you set up a difficult shot and they turn at the instant you fire, or if you hit perfectly and the torpedo is a dud.

I was just getting ready to say the 'flames' probably indicate she was going to sink anyhow

Been several times when I hit a ship... aft like you and the ship slowed to a few knots but I forgot to re-compute  and watch as the follow ups zip by the bow :damn:

This also reminds me of the worst words you can see in a damage report "Propeller Destroyed" and "Prop shaft destroyed"... as soon as you see these you might as well load a saved game or start a new carrier.

Oh yea almost forgot... what we need is one of these !
