TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A 43-year-old Japanese woman whose sudden divorce in a virtual game world made her so angry that she killed her online husband's digital persona has been arrested police said Thursday.

if convicted could face a prison term of up to five years or a fine up to $5,000.

When I think about all the online personas I've killed over the years, they'll probably give me 10 life sentences and a $5,000,000,000 fine.

I'm not surprised hacking into an account like that got her busted

But the reason she did it for... :rotfl:

SteamWake 10-23-08 02:22 PM

Yea I heard about this.

I could see if the 'virtual property' had some real value but an avatar in a video game?! WTF !

Sure you can say they take 'hacking' seriously but honestly it was a lame ass hack she just had his user name and password

Not like she crashed the server or a dns attack or stole credit information.

While on this sort of thing... Did you hear about "Little big world' having to be yanked off the shelves because of a potentially offensive to Muslim's lyrics in one of the songs?!

Good lord what are we comming to?

Task Force 10-23-08 02:26 PM

What the heck, ya think they went alittle overboard. :rotfl:

My god, it better be something bad. But It realy dosent matter to me, im not getting the game.:rotfl:

Raptor1 10-23-08 02:36 PM

I can't stand it when games get subjected to stuff like that, if you find something in the game offensive, don't buy it! :stare:

Wolfehunter 10-23-08 02:40 PM

That is the most stupidest thing I ever herd from a game... What are the lawmakers smoking over there on that island?:nope:

Task Force 10-23-08 02:47 PM

There smoaking... well I cant say that here, its a family fourm.:rotfl:

The purpose of my post is to point out the world has gone crazy.

People being jailed over 'virtual' murder.

Political correctness in video games.

Related as far as Im concearned.

I posted the 'least' biased article I could find here are some others that use the word 'offensive' just for you :yep:

I included the BBC just for you too :)

Had one from ABC news too but lost the link.

The 'original report' was from the 'politics in games' they are a bit... well on the other side of the aisle from Fox but at least try to be somewhat neutral. Its really an interesting site, worth a browse. It even has a few things that will make you smile my friend.

Anyhow... If you do a little searching you will find some news items about Muslims being offended about the publisher thinking they might be offended and then taking out the references about the Quaram.

So it would seem you'r dammed if you do and dammed if you dont.

As to the OP.. Jailing someone for deleting "killing" a charecter is just ludicris. That kind of thing goes on daily in the US. Tons of sob storys about peoples accounts being raided then deleted. There is even one MMO (EvE) that thrives on that sort of thing in fact in many ways encourages it. In fact I think it still holds the record for the largest 'scam' for virtual possesions. No lawsuits there, no police involved. It is what it is.... a game.

Ill find a link to the story and edit it in.

As promised ; http://eve.klaki.net/heist/

I played EVE for about 2 years, can't see any way how it encourages hacking peoples accounts...

EDIT: Oooh, that one, but that was done legally (Without any hacking), IIRC it took them over a year to infiltrate that corporation

I see what you mean now, EVE really is a game that lets you do almost anything without any restrictions except what you bring on yourself

Yes true, but the type of 'hack' alleged in the OP is quite common as well. Hell one of my nephews got his Level99 whatever thing in WoW ripped. Stripped of everything he had, account deleted by a 'friend'. Poor boy was besides himself, for days. I finally was able to convince him that all that was lost was just 'imaginary' and he could do it again, just dont give out your freakin password  He learned a hard lesson but is better off for it.

Now What I find interesting is the choice of the word 'murder' in the charges. Now did my nephews 'friend' murder his charecter?

Last night i asked the admin on a other forum to permanantly ban me cause i had enough! The debates would end up as shouting matches which just put me off. Cyberworld is farking madness! At least here i know i'll never have to do that cause debates are mostly about non kiwi stuff, iraq, USA problems, religeons, but in NZ its election time so ppl are pretty touchy at the moment on forums including myself. Im sure you US election debaters would know what i mean. :)

We're free of elections here in Sydney, Australia for awhile, so if you need some place to get away from them, we are more than welcome to have you come over!

and I didn't even make a joke about New Zealanders this time!
