Freetown.

I was tasked to patrol off the Ghanha coast,so off i go.As i pass Freetown i decide to have a raid.BE WARNED!The depth is not enough to enable you to go to periscope depth let alone deeper!Killed by an A&B Class DD!!!

Ouch! It's been a long while since I've been there, but thanks for the reminder. :) I'm dealing with the shallows south of England at the moment, and even that's uncomfortably shallow at 100m or so. heh

The whole area around Freetown is very shallow. I was once shadowing a convoy approaching Freetown, and set an ambush in the patch of deeper sea NW of it. Unfortunately the convoy changed course a few minutes before I had an opportunity to attack. I barely got out of there alive.

The waters there are shallow but rich in targets (usually low tonnage though). If you go a bit further up north you should be able to position yourself in a chocking point where most of the traffic has to pass. There the waters are deep and the small convoys are usually not very heavily escorted.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Theres also minefield as half a circle around the port. 2 layers of mines.
I got a picture where I had taken screenshot of a map where I had marked accurate positions of the mines.

But its gone now

The best way to have an exciting and big tonnage patrol is: Position yourself in deep water northwest of freetown. Wait for a northbound convoy and shadow it. if you attack it every night, you will have an exciting, action packed two weeks with lots of fat targets.

Check out the charts in Operation Spinnenetz in the stickies. The Freetown convoy routes are well plotted there.

Was that ever updated after the release of GWX2.1 :hmm:

While I don't enjoy harbor raid as much as I do before, I can tell you the harbor in Saint Helena is a much better target. Deep water all arround, juicy target inside. And in the middle of the Freetown-Cape-town route.

Kipparikalle 10-21-08 01:08 AM

I have done over 25 harbor-raids for this (game's)year.

There's always only 2 corvette's or 1 DD patrolling.

Althoug the minefields, they're always circling which is very, very... Mad world

StarLion45 10-21-08 01:12 AM

Yep , you're right BasilY

:p In St.Helena you have
1 Southampton class

1 troop ship (10.000tn)
2-3-4 maerchants
and 2-3 very rookie armed trawlers:p :p
But it's a long way down there:-?
