Johnston Island

I started a mission to the Marianas and left Pearl, heading SW. At about 730 miles out I came across a small island and had to take a look see. I was stationed on JI in the sixties. It is a coral atoll completely surrounded by a coral reef. The island consists of Johnston and Sand Islands. Johnston is now about 9000 ft long and 4000 feet wide at the widest. Sand is no more than a couple of hundred yards across. There was a LORAN tower on Sand. It was on the Pacific Missile Range back then, between Vandenberg and Kwajalein. The average elevation is about six feet. There is a woman behind every tree- no trees, no water. Had to use de-salinized water. This game is amazing! Old_tex
