Recognition Manual - Target points?

Im just wanting to check something out about the recognition manual. I noticed that a lot of the ships have three lines underneath the picture, in relation to the ships hull. There are 2 white one black, with the black box changing position depending on the ship type.

So is the black box the "juicy" spot to hit that particular ship?

It's the ship's length scale.

As LukeFF has stated, it's the ships scale. But the question is, to what scale does it use. I've found the scale isn't at all releative to the different ship pictures thus it means nothing to the player.

If you have ever bumped up your video resolution you will find this "scale" line changes with every different setting. To the point of having the line centered off the Recognition Manual page to the right of the screen!!! The devs put it in for looks but it's usefullness is like teets on a bull.

Its the forever present, infinatly infamous "Not To" scale.

By the way typically the 'juicy spot' is just aft of the stacks on smaller boats and more or less amidships on back on larger vessels.
