[WIP] IJN submarine radar
I'd like to replace the current german radar that sits on the Jyunsen B with an actual IJN radar model, thanks to I-25 I now know what it is : it's the type of megaphone seen on the Sen Toku and the type AM.
I would like to set its range and characteristics, as well as have its 3d model replace/supplement the german model. here's data from combinedfleet : http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/6571/ttwiz082vi5.jpg http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/2...7916i56ty7.jpg I-52 (-5240 m) http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/7947/i52wreckel5.jpg http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/1118/i52radarck8.jpg http://mapage.noos.fr/sub-scope/I-524.htm Type 22 Became Operational: September 1944, see notes below War Status: wide operational use in war Installed: surface ships, submarines Purpose: anti-air, surface dectection and gunnery control Wavelength: 10 cm Peak Output: 2 kw Transmitter: magnetron Receiver: crystal Detector: n/a Detected: aircraft, group at 35 km, single at 17 km, surface ship (large) 34.5 km Weight: surface ships 1320 kg, submarines 2140 kg Number Built: 300 Antennae: horn type, send and receive separate use Type 22 fitted to Kazegumo and Makigumo in March 1942, Hamakaze in June 1942, Akigumo and Yugumo in July 1942, Kongo, Haruna and Hyuga in October 1942, Katori, Kashima and Kashii in June 43,Yamato and Musashi in October 1943, other destroyers prior to September 1944. In wide use by mid-to late 1944. Type 22 radard while not designed for gunnery control provided moderately accurate data for this purpose. |
from :
http://www.star-games.com/exhibits/j...neseradar.html The only one of the subs listed that I am 100% certain carried radar is the I-58, the others shown almost certainly did. It is likely that other subs had Type 22 radar installed late in the war. The dates of installation for most of these ships are as of commissioning. Only I-54 and I-56 would have had it installed later in the subs named below. 1944 7 September I-58 16 December I-13 30 December I-400 late 1944 I-54, I-56 1945 8 January I-401 14 March I-15 24 July I-402 |
3d model imported, it is a small separate mod that replace the FUMO65 antenna, it revolves as well : the pictures I saw of the I-400 at Sasebo show the megaphone at varying positions on their axis which means they did revolve.
http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/3093/sensorixo3.jpg in game : http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/3...rtype22sq4.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/5...type22bxb9.jpg radar range and stuff : http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/8...arrangeis8.jpg http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/r...jpg/1/w607.png I changed the max range to 34500 m, set the max precise range at 15000 m increased the max height from 15 to 17000 m increased the surface area necessary to be spotted at max range from 20 to 40 ²m left the rest alone for now : so we have a bit less precise radar than the german one but with real ijn characteristics. Thought it was necessary : got tired of seing the "grill" revolving ! it can be installed on any of my last Jyunsen B, Kaidai 4 and Kaichu mod. Preferably version 2.6 though. Enjoy ! Well done! Nice work there.

also both the I-47 and I-36 had the type22 mounted 100% for sure  Edit: Look at this http://navalhistory.flixco.info/imag...0type%2022.gif Found here navalhistory.flixco.info/H/64570/8330/a0.htm |
so they had to move the boat to scan the whole horizon ? or did it revolve as well as the picture from I-52 shows ?
I changed the german radar into the type 22, but it is easier to set them up with the revolving one like on the I-400 than a dummy twin megaphone on top of the hangar.. I only had to change the 3d model and the sim file... keltos [edit] do you have the 3d model ??? |
it revolved like in the I-52 but as far as i know it was done by hand, usualy they would circle the whole boat instead of rotating the twin horns
|
right... they must have had big muscles !!
I emailed the guy who did the model to see if he would contribute it free for our campaign : http://www.ijn.dreamhost.com/ For now I'll leave the radar on the tower, I fiddled around with the twin mounting on the hangar a while back , but it was just a dummy, just one more part to the Kaidai tower... keltos more intel on the characteristics : http://navalhistory.flixco.info/H/120760x9/8330/a0.htm |
the thing is, if I set it up in front of the tower, on the hangar, the sub itself will hide 50 degrees aft and back of it, that I can't mod...
if it wasn't a revolving one we could've used the sim file from the typ IX fixed radar.. I try to get it as close to real life as possible, but here I hit a wall :damn: keltos |
I think it would be more realistic to mount it in front and leave the 50* blind spot behind the boat, yes id did revolve but from the pics iv seen they rarely ever did, it was almost always pointing foward. so yea the IX fixed radar should be just fine
