Intro, needs some mod advice

Hello all, I'd just like to start out by saying that your forum has set my personal record for shortest lurker-to-member time. It's really quite the community you've got here.

Here's my situation: I've got vanilla SH3 (OK, just starting to use stuff like SH3Gen and SH3Commander), but it sounds to me like nearly everybody plays with one of the two supermods enabled. I'm still pretty noobish (those dastardly explosive oil drums still plague me), and to be perfectly honest, I'll probably stay that way: I can tell that it takes quite awhile to really learn SH3, especially with full realism, and I can't really devote sufficient time.

So what I'd like to know is this: At a basic level, how do the supermods change the SH3 experience? Which would you recommend for a player who's looking for a more immersive experience without a too-punishing level of difficulty?

Again, it's nice to meet all of you.

Welcome aboard...I can only speak for GWX but we have tied to find a blend of historical accuracy, immersion and enjoyment.

Every player has their own preferences, hence the multitude of mods out there.

Even when playing stock you can add a mod at a time.

You should try using JSGME and SH3 Commander to assist you in your learning curve, then later you may decide to move on to one of the supermods.

Good luck http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...s/thumbsup.gif

I can't seem to find a working link to DL JSGME, but I'll keep looking. I'll also probably cave in and grab GWX for funsies. Cheers.

You know there is nothing wrong with going right to the Super Mod thing after loading up SH3. Even better you can also DL MultiSH3 and have multiple installs with all your favorite stuff.

I highly recommend NYGM 3.0 see the stickied thread in the SH3 Mods section.

Enjoy and welcome!

Happy Hunting!

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

There's a third supermod as well - War Ace Campaign.

All three strive to make it more realistic, which doesn't always mean more difficult. An example of this is the old 'Depth Charge' mod, which gave the DCs a smaller kill radius, which meant that they were less likely to do you in, but added the discomforting possibility of undergoing several hours of depth-charging, and still escaping, or getting damaged progressively, which is horrible, or you could still get that one lucky shot that killed you now. All three supermods incorporate something similar, and all three have many similar changes and adjustments.

Other fun improvements include changes in the sensors, so destroyers lose contact with your boat just before they drop. No more 'laser-guided' depth charges. GWX and WAC both have heavily modified harbors, so new and different ships come and go as you are doing the same.

Wilke is right about having multiple installs. Do that and you can try them all for yourself!

The supermods all deserve their place in the subsimmers thirst for gameplay enjoyment....regardless of their level of popularity.

Try them all and decide what you prefer http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif

RealweatherFix2 Mod (RealWeatherFix2.zip) to add a little variety to the weather and to help combat those month long Atlantic storms.

Those are the mods that I use. The next mod for me to try out is the Lifeboats and Debris one.
