Battleship Texas news
I just got off the phone with one of the park managers for the USS Texas. The good news: the BB survived, no damage.  . He described the BB as "very clean after a good power washing." The bad news: the park store was completely destroyed:cry: (flooded). There is no power to the park yet, but they are working on it. The park lost 70 trees.
As soon as they get power, they're open for business. http://img479.imageshack.us/img479/5...exas061ri3.jpg |

Actually, the armor plating is not the problem. The hull is only 1/16" in spots under the water level. It is so bad right now, they are scared to tow it into a dry dock because it may not make it there. Some are saying that it might be better just to wall off the opening to the channel and fill it all in with sand or something and make it landlocked just as the Stewart and Cavalla.
But yes, she is a grand old beauty. I just wish my knees allowed me to take the hardhat tour like I once could do but did not because my dad would not let me. Getting old is heck. |

My son and I are planning on going to Oklahoma next summer to see the USS Batfish, maybe we'll swing down that way and check the USS Texas out. :) |
