Can't log in to MSN.
I am trying to log on to my MSN messenger and also email in box but I cannot get the email page up. It tells me the page cannot be forund and when I try messenger I'm told that my contact list is not available. What does this mean?

Try THIS for 5-10 pages and then come back if your still stuck.

I got this to paste onto the bottom of the windows host file
65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com 65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net but where is the windows host file? Ive tried file search on windows but no luck so far. |
|
Those links keep sending me to double glazing adverts.:dead: My pc is well wrong today.
|
Ive found my way to a file in d\windows\sys32\drivers called etc and theres supposed to be a notepad file in there called host to which I am supposed to add the numbers pasted in my previous post. But the etc file has nothing in it.
Is there a chance there is something wrong with MSN? |
I just looked up my hosts file and it certainly shouldn't be empty, there's a description in it, as to what it does, and then the entry:
127.0.0.1 localhost Just add the two lines you posted before to that file. Dunno if that'll fix the problem with MSN but it's certainly worth a try. Even if there's nothing in that just paste the two lines in there. EDIT: Now I get it, you can't see anything in the etc folder right? 1.) Open Explorer 2.) in the menubar go to extras (respectively the menu left of the "?" help menu) 3.) Pick the last option 4.) Select the 2nd tab in the new window 5.) Uncheck the box "Hide protected systemfiles (recommended)" or something like that 6.) Apply the changes to all folders Now you should see the file |
Do you mean windows explorer? What route shall I take to find a menu with extras in?
Is it possible that this is connected to my norton security?Because ive also noticed since I upgraded it yesterday I cannot access some websites and more web windows are crashing( especially this site) and the pc seems slower.? |
Yeah sorry I should've been more precise... Windows explorer was what I meant.
I hope your using XP, because the stuff I described in my previous post is for XP, I don't know how that is handled under Vista... The menu is probably named "Advanced" in English, it should however be the second menu from the right... I took two screenshots to guide you... http://members.chello.at/martin.bisanz/explorer.jpg http://members.chello.at/martin.bisa...deroptions.jpg |
Yes! It is fixed. Thankyou to Letum and Viperthesniper.:p :p
I saw somewhere that this extra two lines have to be removed once the MSN is back to normal. But won't that bring the problem back again? |
