Recognition manual
I have noticed that when pressing the N key, the recognition manual appears, but it does not go to the page of the ship that I am currently locked on. On many occasions I wanted to browse to a certain ship's specifications in order to launch an under keel torpedo, but due to the heat of the battle and the lack of time, I gave it up.
In SH3 I remember that the recognition manual was opening exactly at the page of the current ship. Is this possible in SH4 ? Also, as you of course know, in SH4 the torpedo sets itself to a certain depth when locking on a ship? What depth is that ? To the keel ? What do you do when you have a single torpedo left, and a destroyer is directly at 180 degrees, coming straight at you. You try a lucky shot under the keel, high speed torpedo, magnetic pistol. But without the recognition manual, it's pretty hard. I tried the depth that the torpedo auto sets for when locking on a target, but it's not a good depth. |

I generally leave the fish set to it's default shallow depth when being chased by an escort or destroyer. Wait till he's within 700 yards or so, or a bit closer, wait till he's swung a bit wide, and fire right at the tip of his bow. I seem to have a better survival rate at periscope depth than I do running deep and quiet- they hear me no matter what. :(

But in reality, a single torpedo running shallow hitting the bow usually. Also in the game in most of the times. This is why I want the recognition manual to work exactly like in SH3. Can anyone help ?

Also I give thanks that he is 180 degrees because the chances of him being able to locate me with active sonar is greatly reduced. Passive sonar is increased yes but cant really 'pin point' my location as well. First thing I do is drop the scope, check the depth and order a dive. Then Ill give a quick sound check on the hydrophones. If he is going flat out hammer down chances are good hes on a DC run. If so Ill order ahead flank and hard to port (or starbord) and pray. Once the commotion has calmed down and the ship is past me and probably slowing its rudder amidship, ahead 2 knots, silent running, and keep digging for depth... if there is room to do so... and pray some more. If he comes about and closes hard and fast again... rinse, repeat. If your lucky you might get below the thermal, show him your stern, and slip away. One torpedo, a closing destroyer, might get a lucky snap shot off but the chances of A: hitting him or B: it actually detonating are pretty slim. Oh about the recog manual, Im afraid your going to have to just flip through the book and find the ship you want. I have a crib note 'cheat sheet' for the most common ships (hog island freighter anyone ;) ) |

Thank you, this was what I wanted ( or didn't actually want :)) ) to hear.
