Anyone having issues running SH4 in Vista 64 bit?
This is strange because just the other day I bought and was running SH4 and Uboat missions just fine in Vista 64 bit. Now for the life of me I can't get past the two intro screens. I can see the Ubi logo screen and the movie with the guy saying the poem. Beyond that it's just a black screen. Anyone have this happen?

I had an issue the first time I loaded up SH4, as the intro screen would play the movie but the computer would hang on the loading screen after the intro movie finished. I ended up uninstalling and cleaning out the registry of any SH4 stuff, and reloaded the game. Also, try going to your SH4 directory, and right click on the SH4.exe file and go tp properties. In the properties window click the Compatability tab, and tick the Run inCompatability Mode mode box, and choose XP with SP(fill in the blank for whatever version is showing).
Also, right click on My Computer on your desktop. To the left are 4 submenus in blue print. Click on Advanced system settings. It will open a System Properties window. Click on the top settings button to the right, or the one in the Performance box Go to Data Execution Prevention. Tick the second option, Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Click the Add button to the bottom right, and navigate to your SH4 directory, and add the SH4.exe to the list. This will keep Windows from treating your game as potentially dangerous software. In Xp, you could go to the boot.ini file in Windows and turn DEP off permanently, but I can't find it in Vista anywhere, and I've been looking since March. Hope this helps to get it going for you. |

How about mods and/or file changes? Anytime something like this has happened to me it has always involved a mod or a file that I have changed or replaced. Removing the offending mod/file has always resolved the problem for me. Bless JSGME...again. If there is an internal Window's problem..like a missing video Codec file for example, you usually get a notice that the program has stopped working and Vista is searching for a solution. I have never had my Vista64 just go to a black screen and freeze like that. Knock on wood..:yep: Good luck. |
I've heard that changing the AA for the game to anything except 4 will get you past it, too. If it's a new install of Vista, then check to make sure DirectX 9 is installed, also.
