Is there a 1.4 patch prior to 1.4b?

Hi all,

My Direct2Drive version of SH3 is labeled 1.4, not 1.4b, on the title screen. Is this a problem? I've downloaded the 1.4b patch at Ubisoft but it tells me that it does not recognize my version (my "mission.dll" file). Is this normal? Am I already actually at 1.4b?

Thanks for any advice.

Probably, launch your game and look on the bottom right corner, it should say 1.4b or on the top. Then you will notice, if you do not see it try reinstalling everything

1.4b is the 1.4 patch updated BEFORE release
So you are good to go

So I'm OK even though my front end says 1.4 instead of 1.4b? I'm double-checking because I'm about to install GWX on top of it all.

Yes, you're fine. 1.4 was released to testers, and the approved version was released as 1.4b. The original 1.4 was never released to the public, so if it says 1.4 it's actually 1.4b.

Except of course if you download the patch separately it has a typo and says 1.3.

How odd. 1.4 is what I get by default (no patching) with a completely fresh installation from Direct2Drive. Oh, well...

That's because it's new. New versions come ready-patched. If you bought the game today at a store you would almost certainly get the same thing.

I would guess that the "b" in 1.4b stands for "beta" and therefore indicates a pre-release version of the patch. Removal of the "b" thus indicates that version 1.4 came after 1.4b.

You would guess wrong. We had that same discussion back when the patch was released. The original 1.4 was not released, and was considered 1.4a. As I already said, 1.4b was the only release version. It shows up as 1.4 on the loading screen. That's the only difference. If it says 1.4, you have the latest and last version released.
