Defcon Game
I'm going to start playing this game after recovering from reading the manual late last year.Has anyone here plyed it?
What is it like? |
I have, and I still have it installed. Haven't done it in a while, but I can answer most questions you might have.
It's a strategy game that's not too deep. It's more about timing than about speed. The more players in the game the more chaotic things get. |
The game is one of those simple games that still manages to be good, highly recommended
|
I only have the Demo, but I enjoy it.

This game is rather amusing.I'm still figuring bits of it out but it seems enjoyable.
I've only played the tutorial but how does one play aginst the computer? It seems the only option is to play online. BTW Raptor where did you get your sig pic? It's very nice. Is that the battle of Jutland? |
I haven't played in a while, but IIRC you can start a server than add AI to it, which is basically singleplayer
As for my sig, it's a picture of the Grand Fleet in WWI that I restored and colored (Not quite perfectly, I need to fix some parts) |
Globo thermonuclear war. Is there anything more fun?

The biggest thing to know is get the smallest land mass possible to defend. This means Europe. With Europe, you will be able to keep your silo's close to each other and be able to gang up with interceptors on incoming nukes. This is a bit of a play balancing problem in the game. Europe should be bigger. This allows you to save most of Europe in a particular game. Another strategy with large land masses is to group your silos near a section that you want to make impenetrable. So with larger land masses, pick an area to defend the snot out of. Sacrifice the other cities. Last strategy - throw your opponent a bone and launch a nuke from one silo. Your opponent might go for it an reveal many of his silos trying to take it out. In the end, just be smarter than your online opponent. -S |
Russia is the weakest, Europe is the strongest
Yup, it is unbalanced |
I should point out that there is one last strategy - Be the last to launch your nukes. Trust me on that one. The first one to tip his hand usually loses.

Another thumbs up for defcon here.....

A simple yet great game! I still keep having a bash on it every now and then. One of the best things about it is that you can just shove it on your pendrive and take it to work, it even has an "Office Mode" that allows you to press esc twice to minimize it to the toolbar when your boss comes.

I do like the Spartan nature of defcon. Never played it online though, only against the computer and relatively infrequently. I keep coming back to it and still not being very good at it hehe.
Diplomacy sounds like a hoot :) |
