MINE LAYING question

This is a question for you modders out there.

One of the constraints of SH3 with regards to mine laying as im sure you are all aware, is that if you were threoretically able to lay a mine, you must remain within a specific distance to get credit for the kill.

Secondly, nobody has been able to figure out how to lay mines in SH3.

but i have one question or rather a series of questions

in SH3 when you fire a torpedoe and it reaches its maximum range, the propulsion system stops, and the torpedo sinks and explodes.

is it possible to introduce to the game a new torpedoe type which can be selected in the load out screen?

if so,

could said torpedo have a range of "zero meters" meaning the moment you fired it, it would sink to the bottom straight out of the tube?

if so,

could said torpedo be made so that it does not explode when striking the sea floor?

if the answer to all of these questiosn would be yes.

could it be implemented into the game so that the player, at their own descression, could simulate mine laying missions, even though the mine laying would be just for show?

http://www.subart.net/mining.htm

take a look at this pic, u-boat mines must have resembled torpedoes. perhaps a solid black skin

Yes it is possible to do.
If you leave the area?
To bad!!
No cookies for you!
:rotfl:
You can do a new 3D model,
You can do a cloned torp to use.
You can adjust values so it all works!!
;)

You can animate the tubes.
You can assign things in the upgrades stuff.
And you can even have an event window pop up!!

But NO!!
I'm not gonna do it for you!!

Study the files People!!!
It is alll there!!

Great Mines think alike

I and a few others are working on this very Issue,
I for WWI era UC boats and others for the VIID

Yes, yo have to stay in the area,, bacislly lay a barrage across the front of a convoy,

they must travel a distance also to arm them selves, so in essence, speed of 1/4 not or even less, then they can "float" away to arm. too close and ,, well it is negative for you.

Magnetic, due to the final contact , mines are proximity, sadly even for my wwi boats when Magnetic did not exist. it is just the best way to trigger them. prior to release, they must be set to magnetic, and deeper than your hull, drop out the bottom or they will rattle about in your hull. My crew still has a negative feelings for Bernard doing this, He called it playing "extreme hot potato".

Yes, the torpedo model can be changed, yet, when fired, I think in the animation there is another model as it fires a torpedo. just have not found it yet.

jsut to let you know though,, it is being worked on.

In my game mine laying missions are into harbors, lay the mines, us the 6 tr[s as you will buyt a very high amount of points for the mission itself., not so much the tonnage

As USS Sea Tiger says, we're working on this...
