Hi all
Ive got a question and had no idea which section of the forum i should post it in so i will try here :smug: Can anyone give me a idea how many battleships each of the major powers had during the second world war. I don't mean how many classes but literally how many battleships did each navy posses. Thanks  |

At a glance:
Chile: 1 Britain: 14 France: 9 Germany: 6 Italy: 7 Japan: 12 United States: 26 by my count http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...United_Kingdom |
Thanks Steve.
Also thanks for the site link lesrae. |
Don't forget that most of those ships (Especially the USN BBs) were quite outdated and even modernized, couldn't be used as CV escorts or to fight the more modern BBs
Oh, and I assume that the number of Battleships for Germany includes the Schlesien and Schleswig-Holstein, which were obsolete even by World War I Oh, and Steve's list doesn't include the Soviet Union (3, 4 by the end of the war), Argentina (2) and Brazil (2) |
Hey thanks raptor :p
Thats some interesting info. I didn't know about the Schleswig-Holstein :hmm: |

Oh, and I forgot, Turkey had the Battlecruiser that Germany gave them in 1914, SMS Goeben, which was renamed TCG Yavuz and stayed in service until 1960
It's a shame the ship wasn't saved as a museum |
