CHESS 2008: Skybird vs. Clive Bradbury

[shake hands]

Here we go. The rules have been outlined in the chess announcement thread. Again, I use software to log and to keep record of the moves, and to produce diagrams. I do not use any assistance by the calculating engines. Books on theory are allowed. If you use chessbase database, I have no objections.

My move: 1. c2-c4

1. f5

Same here, Sky bird. I'll use Chessmaster 9000 to record the games - no electronic assistance, though - what would be the point? Chess is a challenge between two humans - in my opinion, other than for research, computers have no place in the game.

your move 1.../f7-f5
my move 2. d2-d4

Never played the Chessmaster engines. Are they good?

Edit:

Ah.

How is it balanced, then?

2. e6. I'll revert to long algebraic if you prefer.

Chessmaster engine - too good for me.

As I said in the other thread, it is more about preventing mishaps and misunderstanding, not preferences.

your move 2.../e7-e6
my move 3. g2-g3

Do you play chess in any organised form? Correspondence chess? Tournament? League...? :-?

Just asking, since you have an advantage over me, for you can read my old matches from back then, but poor freigthened Skybird has no idea whom he needs to deal with, and that makes him a little bit nervous! :D

I played league chess for many years, but not for the last 4 years or so. The chess I play now is pretty much limited to blitz on the web - sitting over the board for four hours seems like too much hard work nowadays!

Oh-oh - then I'm warned, with that niveau I cannot compete. But I will try my best to delay your rush towards victory as long as possible. :ping: I played tournament chess and in chess clubs roughly 20 years ago, and played correspondence chess in the German league back then, too. But I took a break from chess for too long then (10 years), and never got back to it in full strength. that's why I prefer correspondence chess nowadays. the setting helps to compensate for what I lost in routine and knowledge.

I wouldn't be so concerned, Skybird, the only thin gI 've really learned about chess over the years is that I'm capable of losing to anyone...

Now this, gentlemen, promises to turn out to be as classical a Dutch defense as it can be.
