Sometimes I hate this game

So I'm on my first patrol with my new XXI. It is an awesome boat. Wow. As modelled by the game, in numbers, it would be a war winner.

Long story short, after bagging some lone merchants, I take on a juicy convoy in the Heb's with only four escorts. I have five homing torps, so I like my odds. After 3 hours of real-time play, I demolish the escorts and ravage the convoy. I take some minor damage after running too shallow under a merchant to avoid a charging destroyer on my tail, but that's about it. 77K- not my biggest, but for an 8-day patrol, I can certainly handle it! So I boot home to Bergen, and am just about at my base when BOOM. I hit some stupid ****ing Bergen defense (net? mine?) and am killed. I didn't save on the way home because, well, I was on my way home.

Now, I'm all for realism and such, but I have no desire to spend another hour trying to navigate friendly defenses. Honestly, this is one spot of realism I could do without. I don't count this as a real death, as in real life, only a buffoon would get nailed by their own defenses and/or they would follow in the escort if they were thick (which isn't practical in this game). This is just a really annoying end to an otherwise brilliant patrol.

Oh well, better luck with the reload, and I'm now saving every time I come close to those ****ing fjords!

If you use GWX you have an additional map that shows you the locations of defensive installations.:yep:

I used that darn map, and still hit something. Either a rogue mine or I was off by 2" in my navigation.

You could always warp back to base (provided your not playing at 100%)

I had the same Issue in early war, I was going into Lorient and hit a mine net. No fun when you go down to 50% hull integerty.

War is hell! What else can one add?

Been there, done that! At least you live and learn for next time!

Thanks for the sympathy votes. I now am using the very narrow and shallow, but unguarded channel to navigate in and out of Bergen. One patrol down, lots more to go (I hope!).
