Aircraft Spotted Question
Why is it in SH-3 and the WO yells Aircraft spotted and I use external cam and , . keys I see the plane.
But in SH-4 doing the same thing , No plane. As a matter of fact I don't see it with binocs till it spawns out of nowhere on an attack run. Any thoughts on this ? |
The SH4 engine doesn't allow for locking onto an aircraft with the camera (that we know of). I've seen some speculation regarding why this is so, but nothing definitive. In other words "just 'cause":D. Wish I could give a better answer:oops:

Thx DT
That actually is a good answer and clear. |
Ive found it very difficult to get a visual on any aircraft in SH4 usually because Im under water by the time they get there
But seriously it can be tough to pick them up. Usually I use the Mk1 eyeball sensor to pick them up in the distance then switch to guns or binocs. |
your not alone, mate. I never see them till they dive.
|
i suspect it is related to the way that sh4 generates things in small blocks so you cant get long visuals on things. with sh3 you had 16k environment but with sh4 from the beginning it is a completely different look. maybe in order to get so much better visuals it sacraficed distant views.

Phew...
....glad it ain't just me. I would drive myself nuts trying to orient towards the sound of the approaching aircraft and never seeing them until they were practically on top of me, very annoying! After a few events like that I wised up and go deep rather than try to slug it out with an aircraft.
In those few duels I've had with aircraft I've noted that they are clearly visible way into the distance once they decide to break off. So as Webster says it's something in the coding which affects their 'spawning' only on the approach and not on the 'retreat'. Another dev oversight but fortunately not a show-stopper.:-? |

I only had one aircraft warning this patrol, pulled the plug, and stayed down a couple of hours, he never spotted me. Puts
