I believe that is what we used to call demiling which was short for de-militarizing.

Rendering them incapable of operating. Normally to prevent the weapons from falling into the "wrong" hands

well that could happen too.

Usually when small arms are being demilled they are either chopped or melted, but in the field you use what you have. I am sure that a good burn would demil many a small arms weapon.

Seems like such a waste though :lol:
