Let me tell you friend, Irak is just as good as any name-brand middle eastern country. It has all the religious extremism and sectarian violence for less than half the cost!
We also offer countries like Saubi Aravia and Iram!

Seriously, though, I can't believe we would sell them m1 tanks. I may be lazziez-faire, but I'm not lazzies-stupid. Even if selling them these tanks doesn't come back to bite us in arse, the government will quickly waste any money they "made" from the sale.
Why not let U.S. companies profit from this situation by selling them arms privately? We have all kinds of designs that the military never made much use of, like the Striker Light Tank or the Commando IFV. Good, cheap designs that can rival Soviet equipment without endangering our own.

Gotta love the American business model.

Invade a country, Incite an insurgency, Enable foreign terrorist groups to move in, Tell the invaded country "hey you are now sovereign again", Get ready to leave

and tell them, "if you want to buy weapons to protect yourselves from all the people we just pissed off, we an offer you a grand deal. Just sign here, the fine print does not mean a thing.

Make a market, offer a solution.

Money in the bank :yep:

Money in the bank my arse. They would have to sell Iraq the entire military to recoup our investment in this war.
The only ones laughing all the way to the bank are private firms with contracts. The rest of us have to pay for the loss.

Tea article mentiones the M1A1. I wonder if the A1 type really is the one tank that I would like to buy, assuming I have option to buy others as well (later M1 variants, or the Leopard-2A5/A6). But I have no idea what the German government's current position is on selling military systems to Iraq.

It is only the American government that lost money in this invasion. Weapon manufactures are doing pretty well.

Corporations don't lose money, only governments.

The idea is to play on the translation issues.

Offer them the M1A1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Abrams

Get the money and deliver to them the M1A1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_carb...al_.30.2C_M1A1

Caveat emptor suckers!

Not to mention that, but now you get to save the cost of transporting this stuff home, and at the same time, you get to say to Congress that they need to be replaced! With better models! Leave the M1's and M1A1's there so we can buy new and improved M1A2's!

A thought just popped into my head - This could be classified as: "Force modernization on a budget!"

Iraqies get a better tank. US gets better tanks. Everyone is happy!

:D :p :rotfl:

With all respect, I believe I said that. Something about "the only people laughing all the way to the bank are private firms with contracts", yes?

Did I say that you didn't?

My sincere apologies if my post was poorly worded. No offense was intended. Just my usual lamo humour. :88)

My bad. And no offense taken either. I thought you had missed that I mentioned private firms. Sorry.
