Let me axe you something...

Is there any reason why the following forums are blocked:

Silent Hunter 4: Wolves of the Pacific
SH4 Fleet Boat Mods Workshop
SH4 U-Boat Missions Add On

Whereas all the other forums are open for guests who have not logged in to browse?

I though initially it might be because of the recent creation of the new forum for SH4 atlantic theatre, but that seems to be open to guests, so it can't be a SH4 thing.

If I had had to register to read the forums here, I would never have got involved, so what gives?

Its to keep out the rabble...

You know the guys who would never register to participate in a forum ;)

The prototypical "Dis game is da suxxors" and the like.

Der Schatten 08-13-08 03:33 PM

Aw.....nobody uses "riff raff" anymore! It's just as good as "rabble". "Miscreants" is good, but seldom used (and often misspelled....by me).

I guess the fact that work sucked today and my brain is fried is showing, huh?
(Crawling back to the bunk on top of the Mk 14 now).

That's the thing that doesn't make sense though. Who cares if the riff-raff, rabble, or miscreants can read the forums? They can't do any damage unless they register and post trash. As I understand it, that was the point in the seperation. Banning people who couldn't help themselves and had to commit the over the wall attacks. But making it so non derranged people can't read the posts herein without registering is a bit restrictive, don't you think?

I believe Nisgeis' point, with which I agree, is that it seems arbitrary to block the SH4 forums -- er, fora -- while leaving the others open.

I'd like to know the reason, too.

buddha95 08-13-08 10:28 PM

it is to distance ourselves from miscreants, rapscillions and scallywags!

BettingUrlife 08-13-08 10:57 PM

Isn't a rapscillion like a turnip?

jamz 08-14-08 06:37 AM

It's probably to keep the rapscallions, hoodlums and ne'er-do-wells from tying up server time.

AVGWarhawk 08-14-08 07:58 AM

It would probably be best to inquire with Neal for this. I'm sure there is a logical reason. You know, like buy a NOKIA phone for $1.00 spam posts.

Still makes no sense. Since registration is for the entire board, not just certain forums. If you have those problems in the pacific forums, you'll have them in the atlantic and other forums, so you'd either block them all, or block none of them.

Not that I understand anything about forum software;)

It's rapscallion. It's a compound word meaning "an onion forming a thick basal portion without a bulb that specializes in a music genre typically consisting of a rhythmic style of speaking called rap over backing beats"

I wanted to join for the longest time but i kept putting it off. then they blocked it and at first i was a little mad but then i realized i had to join so i am glad that it happened. but i find it weird that they only blocked some forums, maybe it is because they are the most popular or something.
