Maybe not a country musician, but I do electronic industrial music as well as experimental noise music.

I've been in more punk, thrash metal, doom metal, techno, industrial, and experimental bands than I care to count.

It's been about 5-6 years since I last played out. The music and art scene around here within that time turned HORRIBLY mainstream and now fringe acts or any art thing that's not completely mainstream is pretty much shunned here now. All the venues that would cater to my sound art all shut down.
Around here, unless you're a college rocker, rapper, pop singer, blues musician, Folk player, etc... there's no place to play. Anyone who is in any way "Alternative" is shut out. And I'm a lot more extreme than simply "Alternative".
