Radar depth?

Is there such a thing as being able to order radar depth in SH4? I'm running TMO + RSRDC as the major mods in my install.

Frederf 08-06-08 10:09 PM

I know RFB has it. Try the semicolon (;) key as that is the usual command for that.

Even if the mod doesn't have that key bound by default to the command, you can add it manually yourself and it should work just dandy.

Zero Niner 08-06-08 10:12 PM

Thanks. But I'm running TMO, so I'm not sure if the same key binding is used.
I was just now searching some older threads on this topic. Is the correct command in the command.cfg file "snorkel depth"?

Frederf 08-06-08 10:42 PM

I think that's correct. Mostly I think it would be easiest just to try it. The radar depth key has been pretty standard from SH3 to present in all mods. Good mods won't change a key binding scheme unless there's a good reason.

Thanks Fred, shall give it a go. :)

Snorkel Depth ---> Radar Depth (rename) in menu.txt (1033=Snorkel depth) ...
Value in NSS_***.cfg ...

Uh oh... apparently Ducimus has changed the "snorkel depth" to deep dive, meaning the words still say snorkel depth, but in-game the sub goes into a deep dive.

Anyway to restore this back to what it was?

Yup, that is correct. I thought my alternate keyboard layout was at fault, but it's in TMO itself.

It's not too difficult to click the depth gauge to get to radar depth. It seems to me that the radar works all the way down to about 40 feet. I use 32' for decks awash and 40' for radar depth. Some minor tweaking may be necessary.

Zero Niner 08-07-08 11:39 PM

Yup, that'll work, but I'm lazy... :D

Yes, you can edit the cfg file to make snorkel depth be the "radar depth" again.

In Data\Submarine\ there is a folder for every submarine. For example open the NSS_Gato folder and then open the NSS_Gato.cfg file with a plain text editor like Notepad. Edit TM's line "SnorkelDepth=181.86;meters" to read:

SnorkelDepth=13;meters

Then you will have radar depth again. The best radar depth varies from boat to boat but now you know how to change it.

edit:
I'm not sure because I don't use it, but if you are using the JSGME to install mods you will probably need to disable TM and any mods on top of it first however - and then re-enable them after you edit the TM file.

Happy Hunting!

Thanks Aanker!

Tearing down Trigger Maru for my first ever tweaks on that mod. All snorkel depths set for 12 meters. That will be perfect for the Balao. Setting max torpedo launching depth for the historical 60 meters. (that always bugged me. Cutie manual says to launch at 199' and the sub will only launch at under 99'). Forgive me Ducimus for I have sinned. Too bad.:arrgh!:

Zero Niner 08-08-08 09:25 PM

Thanks Art. A simple solution.
*scurries off to find data on radar depth*

Rockin Robbins 08-09-08 04:13 AM

Woo hooooo!! I have my semicolon radar depth key back! Now to figure out what Ducimus' old throttle settings were and restore them too. It was SO nice when I could just stab ahead 1/3 for silent and ahead 2/3 for absolute best fuel economy. Settings now are USELESS!:nope:

I hate it when modders start listening to critics who don't understand the purpose for the way a mod was constructed in the first place. Toward the end Ducimus bowed to the reality people when TM was NEVER about reality, but about great gameplay. Reality is patented by the RFB crew!:yep:

Syxx_Killer 08-09-08 02:17 PM

On calm days you can go as deep as 45 ft. I do it all the times. On rougher days, not so deep.

Rockin Robbins 08-09-08 05:32 PM

I'm set for 12 meters now. That's 39' 4" for human beings.:arrgh!: Guess I could go for another meter. Would that be a depth meter or knot meter?
