Battleground Europe Update
For those that do not know what Battleground Europe (WWII Online) is, I present one of the best trailers for the game:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gOoS0AVQIAo It truly is a combined arms simulation where players can do everything from fly bombers, captain a destroyer to lob mortars or drive a tiger tank. And now for the update: v1.29 is in beta. This update will provide new terrain and new planes. We get some new bridges and buildings. The framework for the new graphics engine and a tutorial for new players will be included as well. The developers signed a contract that will license the game out to China now, and the extra revenue should produce a wonderful amount of updates and improvements. The game really is the best thing going on the internet. If you are interested, there is a free 14 day trial. Sign up and find a squad, they will help you learn to be successful. This is no Call of Duty style shooter. The enemy will use tactics when they attack, and you will most likely die many times before you learn the art of using cover and concealment properly. |
What a load of crock. I just signed up for a 14-day FREE trial and they are aksing for a credit-card number. I don't use them, as I don't use banks - why the hell do you have to put this info in for a trial. You did not have to do this with EVE!!!
I just wanted to see what it was like  |
Yeah, it is a complaint we have brought to the devs before. Eve players that have come to WWIIOL have made this point. The good thing is that everyone that has made this complaint that joins my squad has subscribed, so no big deal they would have entered their Credit card info anyhow.
Not sure if there is a way around it, but they are a good company and will not rip you off. Your CC is safe with them. If you do not have a CC, well, not sure what to tell you other than go to Walmart and buy one of those prepaid cards. Then if you want to keep your subscription just switch billing options. They have several billing options that are not credit cards. S! Oh, almost forgot: The video I posted above is a video from the devs. Here is a video montage of screenshots and action made by the players themselves. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iuA64QQvq1M |
Definitely look like my type of game. I love Flashpoint, which is in the same sort of Graphics rating, but the gameplay and realism is awesome.
Shame it is subscription. I expect a lot of the real massive games will be like this  |
All I can say is that I, of all the people around the world have to be one of the most sceptic/against these games you have to first buy and then keep paying them the monthly fee. WWIIOL changed it with a bang. Fock ArmA, OFP, BF series and what else you have, if you want a full scale war, WWIIOL is the one to get.
Here's an example of how enjoyable it can be, most of us have played the Silent Hunter series here so you know how enjoyable it is to find a convoy and sink a ship. Now, take WWIIOL. You know the enemy forces are going to hit a town near you hard with infantry and tanks, you take (in my case) Pak38 AT gun, move it to a good spot waaay out of the city to cover a road you suspect the enemy is coming. You wait, wait and wait. Hour and 2 passes when you start to hear the noises produced by enemy tanks, you know there wont be infantry as it's rare to see a infantry to run all the way from the Firebase to the target city (Mobilespawns are for that). You wait for the tanks to pass you, swing the barrel around to aim their butts and let it rip! You can take down whole armored assaults with 1 well placed AT gun. Or let's the sniper class. A week or 2 ago, I held down half of the enemy AT guns as we attacked a city, I had a very good spot from where I could see the entrance to the enemy AB (armybase). The allies just kept on using the gate that was facing me, so in the end, I got 2 17pndr AT guns, 1 40mm Bofors and whole loads of infantry, helping the German attack quite a bit. A ******* great game, I tell you! |
I am in the RatChat right now, listeniing to the Devs talk about the new stuff that the game will be getting.
Wow...is all I can say. 1.29 beta is halfway done they said. Can't wait! |
What's ya doing in the chat!? There's a war going on! :p
|
Hehe. It was awesome to hear the devs talk about what they have been doing and actually ask the players what they thought about things.
Very good news, as alot of cool things are on the way. |

So do you, and everyone else think it is worth paying out around £150+ a year for a game? |

Oh well, looks like I we will have to stick to the BF series, Flashpoint, and Americas Army etc. :-? |
I played BE a couple of years ago. It was fun for a little while but the "spawn-camp-capture" repetition of EVERY town got boring. 90% of the game is tank camping and guys just pointlessly running around. I wonder if they've changed any of this.

I hate it when games are flawed in this way. I stayed away from BF-Vietnam when I heard that once you got hold of a gunship, you were untouchable... I used to run a Medal of Honour Clan, with servers. There were so many glitches etc that people could take advantage of that I spent most of my admining the server, kicking people etc rather than playing the game. |
Demon, I brought up some concerns in a post at teh Battleground Europe forums. I doubt you can see it without a subscription, but here is some info I got from it.
Here is the link to that thread if any subscribed players are interested: http://forums.battlegroundeurope.com...=1#post3613502 PS: They just revamped the Battleground Website today! http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/ |
