Sea Mine Detection

Playing War Patrol Hellcat which requires entering the Sea of Japan. What tactics work in possible mine areas, if any? I got through the area I thought showed mines from the game map only to hit a mine further into the area. Travel slow, on the surface , during day? Can and how would you use sonar and would this not be dangerous in those waters?

Thanks

I just cross my fingers and hope I don't hit one. (been lucky so far) I don't think sonar would work unless I'm missing something. I've been in the Emperor's Sea of Japan on several occasions in career mode both at day and night - surfaced and submerged. For me it is very nerve-wracking to go in there!

Welcome aboard and Happy Hunting!

If only we had the WFA sonar equipment?? I don't know if it is modeled in SH4.

See:
http://www.hnsa.org/doc/sonar/chap14.htm

"The model WFA sonar equipment, which has torpedo-detection and mine-detection circuits, was developed near the end of World War II."

"The model WFA-1 is a searchlight type of echo-ranging and listening equipment. It can be operated in any one of the following modes: (1) Listening, (2) echo-ranging, (3) communication, (4) torpedo-detection, (5) mine-detection, and (6) monitoring own ship's noise.".........

The first time I seen one, I was raising my scope. It was not zoomed and just as it was raising, I caught a glimpse of it. I then used the key controls to just raise the scope a little and I could see the mines.

This is cheating I'm sure because I don't think one would really be able to see underwater with a scope, therefore, I do like the previous poster and just hold my breath.:arrgh!:
