I sunked HMS Hood

I'm commanding the U-48 heading to north Atlantic, date is 12 of september 1939. In quadrant AM34 ( north of Scotland ) I sighted on the horizont a Task Force heading to Scapa Flow problably ( their course was 100 degrees ), the group was composed by 2 battleships, 2 cruisers and escorting was 4 destroyers ( one in the front, one each side and one in the back ). When I identified the first battleship I couldnt believe, it was HMS Hood. My 1º officer and the chief looked at me with a little concerned eyes because we only had 85 meters under the keel but I had to make a fast choice ( Task Force speed was 20 knt ), the attack window was very short, and I said to my promptly: battle stations! We were all excited and worried because our target was HMS Hood, the pride of Royal Navy. I prepared 4 torpedos for impact detonation, depth 2m ( the sea was heavy, wind 15, and I didnt want miss detonations ) and spread angle was 0º ( at the speed of the Hood the torpedos would hit one next the other along the hull of the battleship ). 07:30 am, at a distance of 1400 meters I gived the order to launch all 4 torpedos of the bow, I was very worried because this was a huge opportunity to give a big blow to the Royal Navy. I heard the sound of the first explosion, the second torpedo didnt explode neither the third ( dont know why ) and heard again another explosion, was torpedo nº 4.
I dived to max depth that I could at low speed and silent running, the destroyers despite their best efforts couldnt locate me, maybe because of the heavy sea. I waited for 1 hour than gived the order to go to periscope depth, raised de scope and there was the Hood, still in the surface with a inclination of 45º to port side. For a ship that size 2 torpedos isnt enough so I prepared the torpedo of the stern to be launched, with that third hit finaly the HMS Hood sunked to the bottom of the sea at 08:45am.
Was my first battleship :D

Sea was heavy and u have set torpedo depth 2 m only ? :hmm:
This is bad and wrong, u had to have premature explosures :yep:

I didnt had premature explosions, I always set torpedos for impact. Maybe torpedos 2 and 3 didnt hit in a straight spot in the hull.

Questionable but in heavy seas they might do more damage if they hit at the right time. Congrats, Mav! I've never even seen the Hood.
