Battle of Midway Discovery

I am running TMO and RSRD as mods to 1.5. I started a new career out of Pearl on May 25, 1942. I was assigned to patrol north west of Midway to give early warning of the jap fleet.

If you want to find the fleet then set up 110 miles west of 180 E and 63 miles north of 30 north they will show up on June 5 in the morning. I found the fleet and radioed the location into base. I was in a bad position and had to take bad shots. Two hits on a carrier and two on Yamato but they sailed away. Would be nice if we had a mod that slowed the speed of ship after torp hits as happens in real life. I did manage to sink one Crusier.

No discovery in these but what happened on June 5 at 18:00 hours I have never read about in any of the forums. If I missed I sorry. At 30.54 north and 178.18 E. I picked up many planes. Probably 25 to 30. I could hear the bombs and torps hitting. The planes sank about 10 ships and I headed in their direction at flank speed thinking I could pick off cripples.

My chart showed surviors and from the bridge I spotted red smoke. I was able to find the surviors and they were pilots floating in life vest. I did not know how to rescue them. They may have been the wrong side as the uniforms were gray colored.

No matter how many times I play this game I find something different. Many thanks to the modders; you guys are the greatest.

I would like to hear of other unusual sights other have found in the game and chart locations so I can experience these also.

I try to get to these engagements on time but always miss lol, thanks for the details! As for rescuing pilots, get close to them and sight them in your binoculars. When you're close enough the very last icon on the bridge menu looks like a life preserver. It'll light up when it's useable. Click to rescue.

I've only ever rescued pilots during said mission orders though. But I'd be surprised if you couldn't rescue your allies at anytime. As for the enemy, I wish I could rescue them too.

Imagine being able to take POWs... some of them may have vital intel like the location and direction of a juicy task force that they willingly disclosed after being interrogated. Could be a neat way to pop up another contact opportunity on the map besides just friendly radio alerts. And any intel would surely be appreciated by HQ, and may earn you a bit of renown. Would be a neat additional layer of realism in my opinion. Not to mention fun.**

ETA: ** And better karma, considering how many times I've sadistically machinegunned multiple liferafts after sinking a ship. :P

well it depends of the hit, but yamato can easily stop a torpedo with the armor belt and perhaps scape without damage.

the carrier i donīt know, perhaps have to reduce the speed but in case of submarine attacks the priority is continue going at full speed at all cost to avoid the "coup of grace" and make the things difficult for the submarine .

I read that because of the way a torp damaged a ship by blowing the metal both inward and outward that reducing speed was an almost immediately done. The petals of metals acted like a pump forcing water into the ship. You also had damaged control trying to plug the holes with wood shoring and you would need to reduce the pressure and flow of water as much as you could so they could accomplished their task. Water on one side of a ship caused tilting and you had to counter the flow of water by flooding on the other side.
