[TEC] Lightning Effects, Campain weather Etc, Build on what good men already started
I would like to see if anyone would be interested in opening up the investigation into lightning, thunder and storms. It had been almost a year since I had posted things about this topic and people much more talented then me had taken it up. I did not know that one of the people had passed away during my leave. My deepest thought and prayers to his family and friends and he will be missed for sure.
I have the TM mod that was made for 1.5 along with the most recent version of the ROW mod installed on my computer. I noticed that if I play a single mission that I’m able to see lightning and hear thunder however it still is not following the boat or camara. If I move outside of the area it is gone, until I reload the game. I’m not sure if this was ever solved. Playing with the S3d program I have found ways to change the colors, intensity, flash patterns, etc. Plenty of other things as well that caused me to have to drop in my files again. So far accounts for lightning can be found in the following Scene.dat Materials.dat Particles.dat And some others that I will have to add later. If the lightning problem has in fact been solved then simply forget the above portion and I will have to see what wrong with my machine again. If it is not I’m hoping some people would join together again to figure it out once and for all. Many people have given us the tools to fix this game. (Much more talented then myself LOL). With collective minds I’m sure we can finish what the developers started and build on what Dave and so many others found. The second thing I’m looking at it what controls the radomness of weather in Campaigns. I have done everything I could think of to mess with files that control the campaigns causing many CTD. I even tried forcing bad weather at the start of my campaign mission. Even with the values changed in .mis file. It would not work. Sky remains clear with little or no change. I tried also checking the saved game files for information to force bad weather but unlike SH3 have failed in everyway to find it. I’m open again to any suggestions or hints along with the help of the modders. I’m not good with Hex editors. I’m wondering if some of this stuff is located in the .act files but im lost as to how to work with them. I just think it would be great to come together and get this all worked out, I don’t think the developers will ever return to finish. Please don’t take this as trying to take away from anyone that worked on these problems before. I’m not trying to steal thunder from anyone. What Dave and the makers of all the other mods have done with the game is nothing less then spectacular. I’m pretty sure though that these problems were never solved. Time to put our minds together and brain storm, Do I smell smoke yet??? :rotfl: Bill Again Big thanks for the dedication of those who continue to go above and beyond to bring the most realistic Sub Simulator of all time, KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!! (Something else I’m looking into is sounds, there will be a second post about this later) |
I would love to also see the lightning work. I know Leovampire worked really hard on this and the missing speech phrases and would love to see them work. I wish I had more talent at this, I would donate as much time as possible to fix it. If there is something simple but time consuming I could do, I would be willing to help all I could. It's tough being a dummy.

I agree with you, I'm not very talented either when it comes to modding files, Thats why im looking for help, I also agree that I would love to see all the hard work Dave and so many others put into the lightning. We could even make this tribute mod as well, since Dave is the one that figured out quite a bit about the lightning.
I guess lightning still does not work for you either? Bill |

Our modding group did it in the past, I could ask them how? (they do not longer contribute here in this forums) |
