Sorry to ask this in the mods forum but I have a real problem here
OK guys this is getting weird - Recently I bought a new copy of SH3, as my old disk was a bit beat up after over two years of play.
OK so I successfully installed the game, mercifully as its a new copy its already patched to 4.b. Then I installed Grey Wolves and that seemed to go ok and I had some fun, then NYGM3 came out so I thought to uninstall Grey Wolves and try NYGM. Now here's where the fun started, I thought to try for a clean install of SH3 for NYGM, so I tried to uninstall SH3 via the usual, then to be on the safe side I also went into regedit and removed anything with Ubisoft or Silent Hunter from the registry. So then I go to reintall and all I get is the option to remove, repair or uninstall, the uninstall didnt work becuase files were corrupted, the repair didnt work, same reason, and so I cant uninstall. So then I went back into regedit to do some more spring cleaning, I then got the following message each time I tried to reinstall 'Error applying transforms verify that the specified transform path are valid' Error:-1610 C:\windows\Installer{9720C029-OC2C-4DIE-9DEO-E89971C4C8C77-11033.mst} So I tracked down {9720C029-OC2C-4DIE-9DEO-E89971C4C8C77-11033.mst} and removed it Then I tried to reinstall again, now all I get is 'Error:- 1610 The Configuration data for this product is corrupt Contact your support personnel' What is the point of having uninstall iof it doesnt uninstall the game!!! This is a store bought, legitimate copy of the game about a week old and played about twice. Its in perfect condition! Can any one help me? |
Can you not try a rollback, then go into control panel and add/remove programs and remove it from there.
Be sure to remove the my docs SHIII also, reboot and try the new install? Koon |
And make sure you go to where it was installed, and delete the leftover files you will find there. The uninstaller tends to leave behind several text files plus GW files.

Ok, this is not a SH3 game error. It's a windows problem. Basically you have a partially installed & corrupted installer lodged into Window's memory and it can't execute SH3's installer while it is present.
Here's the easiest way to remove Sh3 fully and remove the corrupt installer. Delete the SH3 Program Folder from the root directory (usually c: ). Delete the SH3 folder within My Documents. Reboot your PC. Visit http://www.ccleaner.com/ and download the free software (virus free and very good), then run the cleaner & registry fixer. Shutdown & Restart your PC. Reinstall SH3. - Do not skip any of these above. The reboots are important. One word of caution. While the registry is only a listing service for windows, you can do permanent damage by messing with it if you don't know exactly what you are looking for. For example there are about 4 entries, in different locations, for SH3 alone. If you should decide to edit your registry manually always create a restore point. |
If the above advice doesn't work download a free tool from microsoft called "process monitor".
It will show you all the file and registry reads and writes from each process. It will produce a huge amount of information, but create filters to only show activity of the setup program, and somewhere in there you'll find what its reading that you need to delete. Careful you don't delete the wrong thing. You'll be staggered how much stuff there is going on that it picks up HTH |
Hi Danlisa,
Thanks for your suggestions, I'm already aware of CC Cleaner, I use it plus, Reg Mechanic, plus Easy Cleaner. I have done what you suggested a couple of times over, with the reboots etc. I've been into the Registry and I am sure there is nothing left that is connected with SH3, at least not outwardly labelled as such. So now what do I do, I cant repair it, or uninstall it or delete it I have heard of this issue before and there is a way to deal with it. But I'm buggered if I know what to do. I did a search on Error:-1610 there are some interesting threads on other games forums with sollutions for those games, but I'm not sure how to apply what they suggest to SH3. Do you know any one on the SH3 forums whos is a real PC Wiz, if not yourself who might be able to help? Regards Jonathan aKa Rascal Quote:

Still got the problem
Hey there johnno74 This is interesting never heard of Process Monitor will go get it but am unsure what you mean by 'but create filters to only show activity of the setup program, and somewhere in there you'll find what its reading' as I dont think I know what I'm looking for in the first place.

Check the contents of C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver.
You must have Admin rights on the PC, if the folder contains anything, manually delete it. Try again. Honestly, this is a typical InstallShield error and all the points mentioned are the usual fixes. |

Th eplot thickens
Hi Danlisa,
Well I tried that I had two files in there interestingly one was labled 8, and one was 9 that was it, 8 had a few files and 9 was empty. I delited both as you suggested, then I used all the previously mentioned cleaners and reg cleaners and rebooted and then went to reinstall sh3 and I got "error:-1610 Cojntact your support Personnel" I looked it up on the net and found a few links, listed below, my problem is that my technical knowledge only goes so far and I'm not sure sometimes what they are saying or asking, perhaps I'f you took a look you might be able to translate it into something I could try The first seems very plausable but a little daunting as you go further into the explanation. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/arc.../t-195447.html http://www.gnutellaforums.com/limewi...or-1610-a.html So there's still something in there somewhere, any more ideas Quote:

Hi rascal,
maybe that's helpful: SH3 RegClean <-- outdated | New version: here. It wipes out all reg entries of the 'InstallShieldWizard' and of SH3. Cheers, SquareSteelBar . . |
Hey Rascal, have you tried a "restore" to a time prior to the the install of your new SH3 disc? Restore points go back around 3 months and sometimes they resolve problems.
I had a problem quite awhile ago while playing grey wolves (pre-GWX). I finally had to reformat my hard drive. This takes a lot of work to get the computer back to the way you like it, but at least the computer is like you just took it out of the box. Be sure to back up all important file before you reformat the C drive. |
Success at last
Hi to all who tried to help me, and thanks.
A couple of things in the end Mr SquareSteelBar and his SH3 RegClean did the trick, a very good little item there, did you build it yourself, it worked like a charm I would really reccommend it to any one who needs or has to uninstall and reinstall SH3 Can you tell us what it is or how you made it as it may be useful for other games or applications. Secondly thanks to Danlisa for his efforts, they were a great healp Laslty during this whole escapade I cam across a new piece of software called TuneUp Utilities 2008 this is one hell of piece of engineering and I would reccommend it to any one, check it out http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/ This is not shareware but unlike alot of the so called cleaners or tuners on the net this is not simply mimicking what Windows already does this thig seriously takes your PC to bits and reconfigures it for ultimum performance, and best of all they offer a 30 day trial as oppsed to some half assed check which finds a bunch of problems that dont really exist. My PC is so well behaved after I used this. Give it a try |

Hi rascal,
what I did was the following: During installation of SH3 I used an uninstaller like Ashampoo Uninstaller 3 which took down all system changes [like reg entries, file changes etc.]. Using this report I created then a batch file for the removal of all these registry entries. After this the batch file was compressed by Batch To Exe Converter That's it. These are the keys created in the registry by the 'InstallShieldWizard' during installation of SH3: Code:
