Changing Torpedo Depth
I'd like to change the depth a torpedo drops into the water when released by a plane. Can this be done and if so, how?
The reasoning behind this is to make the torpedoes able to hit a ship in dock with shallow water. Thanks in advance for any feedback. SnS |

Well, all this started when I was creating a fictional MP mission. I got the Japanese planes to drop torpedoes and then found the torps dropped deep before running near the surface. I just tested the Kates dropping torpedoes on a U.S. carrier and it worked great. I had my camera view just above the carrier deck and watched the Japanese planes come in just above the water drop and pull up. Carrier anti-aircarft was pretty good and many of the Kates were shot down. The stationary carrier was hit multiple times and sank. I've also discovered it didn't take much time to get underway and avoid a dropped torpedo. I also noticed Japanese planes will go after your sub before they'll go after a carrier.
As Peabody mentioned in the Mission Designers Forum the problem I'm working on is like the Japanese planning the Pearl Harbor attack. |

You also can change angle of torpedo input into water max_dive_angle from
33° up to 15° ... 18° ... |
Thanks for the replies. I just got back to the forums here after trying the SD3 utility to alter the file mentioned above. What I changed was the value that is 33 by default. I changed that to 15 and left the 5 meter as is. I tested this in shallow water and it worked great.
Thanks for helping out. Now it is possible to create a Pearl Harbor scenario using Kates that swoop in and drop torpedoes that don't go too shallow! |
