Any Mac Pro users? ATI 3870?
Hi ALL,
I'm a Mac user, but for years had a Dell XPS Gen 2 w/ a Nvidia 7800 GS that I've kept around for games, mainly SHIII and IV. It has served me well, but I'm retiring this machine and the PowerMac Dual G5 I use for work, and combining the two, using Boot Camp for Windows. The new machine is a Dual Quad-Core Mac Pro, with both a ATI 2600 and soon to purchase ATI 3870 so I can use three LCDs for my work. I believe the 3870 is already being used in PCs. Is anyone using this setup and/or just this card? Any opinions on this ATI card with either SH version? Thanks in advance! |
A HD3870 will run SH4 just fine, no problems at all... the performance of a HD3870 is only slightly slower than a 8800GT.
but how are you going to run SH on a mac? |
i have the "missing eye problem" with this card all the
time. (no eyes for the deck crew) |

Thanks! Yes, Mac does Windows now...
Great, thanks for answers. I'll keep an "eye" out for the eye problem! ;)
Yes Schwuppes, I was looking at the 8800. It performs a bit better in PC games, but has worse performance on the Mac side. The 3870 runs the Apple Pro Apps better, supporting the Core technologies software on the Mac. As Seafarer noted correctly, any Intel Mac will run Windows (XP / Vista), or any Linux flavor in conjunction with OS X. One machine does it all now, and the Dual Quad Core is a screamer. Makes a great gamer platform, along with being a workhorse for my Pro Apps chores. My 3870 ships in about 2 weeks, I'll post my results here. |
