Obama thinks the National Athem is a form of oppression?

I wonder what Snopes has to say on this one? Someone research it for me - I'm getting tired tonight.

Obama Explains National Anthem Stance -

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Tit le 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171...... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

'As I've said about the flag pin, I do n't want to be perceived as taking sides,' Obama said. 'There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it.

'

WHAAAAAAAT???????
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president. I, for one, am speechless . .

They complain about everything, just like when Howard Dean made that yell. Who gives a damn what it sounded like? You shouldn't care about simple thinks like that; just ask yourself if they'd be a good president... So long as you agree with their politics, go for it.

Of course SUBMAN disagrees with his politics. But why post about Obama's politics when you can post unsubstantiated rumors from your email inbox? Much more fun.

Well you have to admit for a country that claims that it is supporting peace it is strange that our national anthem focuses on rockets and bombs used to kill people.

"And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution."

Sure makes me all giddy and stuff.

When people don't want to address the issues, they focus on minutia like wearing American flag pins made in China.

I am coming up on 30 years of service to my country and I have never wore a Chinese pin to work. I guess some would call me unpatriotic.

BTW I would like to see a citation that this is what Senator Obama actually said. Not saying that there lies and misrepresentations about Senator Obama on the Internet....OK I am saying that. If you can't produce a citation, I guess it didn't happen. If you have a citation, let's see it.

Three seconds of Google really took it out of me.

Think I'll lie down for a bit.

So sleepy.

In this case, the joke is the message falsely quoting Obama, and it's on whomever is gullible enough to believe it's true.

Now why would it? To me the Chinese anthem sounds like someone torturing a bunch of cats but I wouldn't presume to bad mouth it. ;)

But you guys missed the biggest point of all - maybe Obama didn't say these exact words, but actions speak louder than any words. Snopes 'confirms' he didn't have his hand over his heart when the National Anthem was played.

I could care LESS what he said or did not say after this!!!!

So when I lived in America I should have put my hand on my heart when the US national anthem was played? Actually I noticed quite a few Americans not having their hand on their heart but they sang with gusto.

Oh and one thing to do with this, when I lived in the US I got hassled cos I didn't put my hand on my heart even though I'm British and therefore under no obligation to....so I can see where this is coming from.

You are not talking some civilian - you are talking possibly the president of the United States not doing this! That is the most dispicable and disrespectful thing ever possible for someone holding office in this country! He doesn't care about it! Yet he wants to govern over it?

Give me a break! He should be stripped of his office right now!

If your possibly elected leader has no plans or feelings in the strength of ones nation, and to say there is not a problem, I'd have to say that you are one ignorant messed up individual Enigma when it comes to politics and your future outlook.
