Carriers at Pearl dec 9 1941 ?????

Ok that's not too nice of me but I usually start a campaign docked at tender in Pearl. Then I go for some target pracice ;)

the thing is : I think I spotted 2, not one , two, carriers docked there ??? see below :

did anyone fix this ? or notice it ? cause then we could use it in an alternate japanese campaign where the carriers were at Pearl on that fateful day...

Search around, someone was reworking Pearl.

units

I know, but he's only reworking the base isn't he, not the units actually there ?

cgjimeneza 06-27-08 05:52 PM

what carriers?

did you by chance check to see their hull numbers? to identify them positively as the carriers then asigned to pac fleet...

will read tonight to see which carriers and where were they on the days following PH.

also I will scan tomorrow some data on the Battle of the River Plate and post it on the pocket battleship thread

:arrgh!:

Those are just 'RandomGeneratedGroups' and I think in the 'Us Harbor Traffic.mis" There are not always two and sometimes none. But it can be set to spawn 100%. I think IRL one was on the way back from Midway and would have been there on the 7th but was slowed down by weather and another got there a few days later. And I think one was in the US in dry dock. Just off the top of my head, not sure it's exactly right.

One carrier was at Pearl 9 December, 1941.

The USS Enterprise(CV-6) docked during the early evening hours of 8 December, 1941, and had cleared the harbor channel by 0600 hours 9 December, 1941. The USS Lexington(CV-2) was at sea to deliver aircraft to Midway Island and would not return to Pearl Harbor until 18 December, 1941. The USS Saratoga(CV-3) had just finished an overhaul and was at San Diego to pick up her air group. She would enter Pearl Harbor 15 December, 1941, to refuel and would then conduct and aborted attempt to reinforce Wake Island.

33 tubes on a sub???..., I wonder were the recoil were to leave you after firing a broadside... LOL

What do you mean HAD the Japanese subs lingered a bit keltos01.

This is for any mission designers out there

Historical Mission:
Jyunsen B vs. Task Force 8 composed of USS Enterprise(CV-6), USS Northampton(CA-26), USS Salt Lake City(CA-25), USS Chester(CA-27), USS Benham(DD-397), USS Maury(DD-401), USS Fanning(DD-385), USS Balch(DD-363), USS Gridley(DD-380), USS McCall(DD-400), and USS Craven(DD-382)

NOTE: With the limited ship selection of SHIV, Task Force 8 would be composed of 1 Fleet Carrier, 3 Northampton heavy cruisers, and 7 Somers class destroyers.

Background: I-6 radios a report of one "Lexington class" carrier and two cruisers East of Oahu and heading Northeast at 20 knots. Vice Admiral Shimizu Mitsumi orders several Japanese submarines, among them are the Jyunsen Bs I-15, I-17, I-19, I-21, I-23, and I-25, To pursue and sink the carrier.

Area: Shipping Lanes North and East of Oahu

Time Frame: 10 December, 1941 - 14 December, 1941

The Jyunsen B should start some distance from the task force and get a map update
of the US Task Force and proceed to intecept.

Historical outcome: At least two attacks were made on the USS Enterprise, one missed the carrier's stern by only 60 to 90 feet. In the end Task Force 8 would escape unharmed and the Japanese would lose the I-70. On 14 December, 1941, the submarines chasing Task Force 8 were ordered to break off and proceed to patrol station of the US West Coast.

keltos01 06-28-08 10:10 AM

erm... I knew they chased after them, made picket lines and stuff, didn't know they actually came this close to bagging the big E !

I think that (future) mission would be a good start for a jap campaign ?? Peabody ?

btw which other type of Japanese sub should be modded next, if any ?

Takao 06-28-08 11:13 PM

How goes the I-13/14 Modified Type A and your I-400? Any updates...

As a request/s PLEASE

A C-1/C-2 Type: I-47 was Zenji Orita's final boat at the end of the war and one of the few Japanese large submarines to survive the war.

A new conning tower for the Jyunsen B: I-58's late war conning tower.

Nope, I've been working hard in RL till thursday of this week writing a report and didn"t have time to spend on it, I've also made a Class T submarine mod for the other side, managed with Peabody's help to get those eight forward tubes :D:D:D which we would need for a C1 type I think and off course for the Sen Toku (big and last on my list now)

do you have any intel ? pictures ? I just got a japanese picture book from 1979 on ebay, it has pictures of B types mostly. What I'd like as well is a sub that did at least some dammage, even though we all know they weren't that successful overall.

you might wanna post that on the Jyunsen B / kaichu /kaidai thread or start a new one for the C1 ?

Takao 06-29-08 07:43 AM

I'll see what I can come up with, and post it the Jyunsen thread.

Where was the sub to start with, to be able to catch a Task Force going 20 knots? Remember in SH4 if you have carriers you have planes to deal with. What' s the surface speed of the JB, about 25? Take a long time to catch them going east.

Edit: Here's a mission, try it out with Jyunsen B. Unzip to your Single mission folder. You will have to change the entry date of the Jyunsen b. At least my copy is 1944. Maybe I don't have the newest?
