Changing fire effect of turrets

I would like to ask if it is possible and if it is how I can change the fire effect of 8” turrets to that of 11” turrets?

I’m not really into modding and I hope it can be done by renaming and exchanging some existing files.

Edit: I mean the fire and smoke effect not the damage and I don't want to change the others turrets effects. Thanks.

Yes it can be done quite easily, and in fact I had made that very change while playing around with some effects last month, but it was done with Silent 3ditor.

If you don't have S3D or wish to use it, I'd be happy to make the necessary change.

things like this are done by finding the 8" guns file (sim, dat, or zon) then comparing it to the 11" guns file. if you want the 8 to visually look the same then change the numbers to where the 11" is set but take note of the difference between them so you can judge how much your changing it in order to tune it to your liking.

IMO if you change the 8 then the 11 should be changed an equal amount higher or close to it so it is properly represented. after all the 11 and 8 should not be set at the same numbers IMO.

Well I could of course download it but then I have to do what Webster is saying having no clue where to start of changing one value after another and test it in game. I imagine that this could take quite some while.
If you know what to change and if it is not too much of an effort for you then I would gladly take your offer.:yep:

I just feel the firing 8” is looking not strong enough and that the firing primary artillery should clearly distinguish itself from the secondary. Even if it is not like that in reality it is a nice eye candy. From what I have seen the effects of 5” and 8” is almost the same and then there is a big jump when it gets to the effects of 11”. I think it would look better more like the 11” then the 5”.
Of course my only reason to want this is the eye candy.

The guns do not have individual files. The fire effect is defined in the relevant guns_radars .sim files. The fire effect is not a value(s) that can be increased or decreased, but an ID that links the firing of the gun to a particular particle effect. There are only two particle effects for guns, one for 3-8 inch guns, and one for 11-18 inch guns. If you wanted an effect between these two, you would have to create a new particle effect for the particles.dat file.

Simply a matter of changing two IDs. This will modify Japanese and US 8-inch guns only:

Thank you very much.
I’m at a complete loss when it comes to this stuff…
