That's a very big "if". We do not even know if it is possible to artificially create that. they would be a simulation of human reality. Can a simulation become aware of itself and become as original as reality - not being a simulation anymore? Let's wait and see - but probably not during my lifetime, if ever.
but i guess that we will build machines that will act with surprising autonomy. Naval research drones under development and in testing already are like that, capable to stray through the oceans for months - as long as not meeting situational conditions their programmers had not anticipated. In the end, even the most clever machine is no more intelligent, in a cognitive understanding, than a telephone answering machine.
