88% Say Free Speech is Good, But Only 53% Oppose Ban on Hate Speech

Funny how that 53% changes to 74% when people are reminded that it is the gov that will be the ones deciding on what constitutes hate speech.

You must take the good with the bad in this world. People however are typically too dumb or ignorant to realize it.

All in the wording, IMO.

Thats the ticket allright. Problem is, the gov will word things in that shouldn't be there in their own self interest of course! Remember the lady recently that was arrested for asking Islamists to stun animals before they killed them? This is how the gov will word things.

But they haven't done that here. Hate speech was not a term coined by the government as far as I know. You can't say if it happens in Europe it'll happen over here. Different culture. And here's an article I think you'll enjoy, SUBMAN:

I disagree. The UK has been a mirror for decades of where America is going in the future. We are not on seperate paths. Quite the contrary.

Free speech all the way.:yep:

Free speech, including hate speeches. If somebody wants to spread hate publicly, then so be it. However, I'd have something done if a complaint was filed against the speech and person who gave it.

You know how you stop most hate speech? Slander and libel and a decent lawyer.

Works. No laws needed.

Actually I'd say it was probably the other way around for the most part.

I hate it when people say this stuff. "Do as I say because I know what is best for you" is usually the implication.

88% of people say they support free speech? Who the hell gave them the right to say that...

I wish i could say different, but if people really look at a situation, there is only one answer. If you do not give it proper thought processes, then the answer can swing both ways.

Maybe I should say it is because people haven;t given it any thought that they think this way. An example is when people are told that the gov will be the entity making the decision. Notice you just picked up 25% fo votes! Typical response when people start to see the issue more deeply.

End result - Ignorance applies big time.
