McCain says he is a computer illiterate!!

This is scary. Imagine someone holding the most powerful political executive position in the world in this day and age who does not know his way around a pc. At the very least, I would have thought he would have come to realise through his work as a senator the help a pc would be - even just as a communication tool at minimum.

People I know who do not know how to use a pc, and they are very few in number, tend to share a resistance to change while trying to hold onto or forever claiming the virtues of days gone bye.

Not neccecerily...

Tony Blair (hardly my favourate person) had never learnt how to text, or use a computer to send an email when he left office.

A relative of mine only used a graphical operating system for the first time last month. Wouldn't know one end of a MS Word from the other end of Open Office. But a) They are rather radical in their politics and b) in the early 70's, they were operating those computers that took up whole rooms.

McCain has been a legislater since 1983 - that would have been the last time he would have had to have typed a substantual document himself. In those days, computers were for geeks, scientists and secretaries, so theres a 50/50 chance then he would have used a typewriter.

Point is. Being brought up IT literate is more of a privilage then most under 30's realise. I'm not worried if McCain can't use a computer... indicates he had more important things to do.

Actually, I feel better about it. It means he is a real leader. Minions are for doing the grunt work.

What was that line from Tom Clancy's novel "The Hunt for Red October"
Ahh yes...
Admiral Greer talking to Skip Tyler.
"The short version, Commander. I don't play with computers. I have people who do that for me."

Since when is using the PC a benchmark for becoming a President. Well, let's see Washington - No
Lincoln - No
Roosevelt - No
Kennedy - No
Clinton - Yes
Bush II - Yes

I think I'll vote for those who are computer illiterate. After all they are the SMART ones. Their worlds don't stop for a blue screen of death!:rotfl:

Yep. As most people his age are computer illiterate. It's normal. Computers really are a gen X thing and later. The older you get, the rarer it is for someone to really know what they are doing on a computer outside of simply hitting the button that brings up email.

I feel sorry for the people who didn't become computer literate and still have to buy porn in a liquor store or have it delivered in a plain brown wrapper.

Big deal. Atleast the guy understand that windfall taxes against oil companies will not lower gas prices.

Not a big McCain fan myself but he did fly a fighter plane, takes some gray brain matter to do that successfully. Although he was dropped in the end...:)

At 69, I know computers fairly well but I would not know them at all if I
had not seen a very good way to play games without a board & pieces....
