Anyway, don't be surprised about this. Chavez is using tactics used by every other ruler looking to cement power. He diverts attention and blames a country or a people and sooner or later, the propoganda sticks. Take Germany and the jews for example.

Well Hugo been quiet for a while so I guess this is as good a reason as any to kick up a fuss and remind the world hes still there.

For some reason I get the feeling that Hugo and Mahmoud are in cahoots... Iran is backing Hezbollah, al Sadr and his Medhi Army (IMO) and is running arms into Iraq (conjectural). Meanwhile, on the other side of the planet, Chavez throws another tantrum and tries to stir up more anti-US sentiment cr*p down south... :shifty:

The Venezuelans are calling this a "provocation"? To do what? For Chavez and Company to run off at the mouth? They don't need provocation to do that...

I don't think so on that one. I don't fault the decision to go into Iraq, but I do fault how they planned to deal with the aftermath, such as breaking up the Iraqi army? Or creating super forts so that all Americans go back to these big forts at night leaving the country in chaos at night? How about occasionally doing random patrols?

How could they not see this coming? The short answer is, I don't blame Bush for our Iraq headaches, but I definitely blame Rhumsfield. Our current situation is because of him. His policies from making sure no American deaths happen in Iraq by putting them outside the population to his smaller faster lighter policies which simply don't work. Smaller faster lighter may work for quickyly taking an objective, but to hold it, that is not the answer, that is for sure. His policies would destroy our militaries capabilities given time - look at his base closures even, including sub base closures? He has done irrepairable harm to my country with this in lost talent alone.

Why "ask". From an international law point of view, America is definitely in the wrong on this one. The S-3 is a military aircraft and it has invaded airspace. If someone trepassed onto your lawn, you'll be well within your rights to demand, not only ask, for their reason here and that they leave.

And the excuse. "Navigational problems?" It is an old standby that has become cliched and sounds less plausible with each advance in navigational technology. Does the US contend that the GPS, INS, TACAN, dead reckoning ... etc all went onto the fritz at the same moment?

You'll be less insulting saying you don't give a **** about other people's sovereign airspace, which you will invade for your own convenience.

You miss my point... I'm not saying the US isn't at fault here. The pilot did contact a Venezuelan tower and the US did not deny the incursion. As for the other "aspects" of this event, well, I'm not privy to that kind of Military Intelligence so I'll just go with what the media has reported.

My point, facetious as it was, it simply this: when you hear about just about any event where one nation "violates" another, the responding rhetoric and tone are already "heated up" and hostile. What ever happened to just talking calmly and working out the problem without all the saber rattling and accusations?

Seeing as Chavez accused the Columbian Army of violating his borders with a 60-man patrol the day before this "incident", it is clear a full-scale two-front invasion is imminent.

The most destabilizing element in the area is Chavez. You can't fart in Columbia without Hugo going off on another tirade it seems...
