Hi Kys2000,

Are you trying to find a mod to bring back the colours of contacts on your map?

Green = Neutral
Red = Allies
Blue = Friendly ships

Not the GWX version where everything is black?

If my understanding is correct, I had the same problem and the answer is in a thread I posted some time ago.

There is a bit of reading here but it may help.:yep:

Yes, he wants the details on how to change the colors.
What files need fixed for colors to appears.
This is not my area so I really don't know what needs edited or changed.

Coloured units

Anyone know what was changed on the xxx_shp.tga files?
Cause that package does not contain all replacements in 2.0 and 2.1
And has a few not needed.
Which will cause a new folder to be created.
:hmm:
As all folders are read at loading, this is needless overhead.
:doh:

Btw, are there grey contacts/wrecks? I could swear that I saw a grey wreck once.

IIRC the alpha channel.

However, as you have correctly pointed out there have been new units added since and not all have been included. Therefore those ship icons appear black in colour on the nav map and attack screen.

That is totally dependant on what vessels you have in whatever version or mod you have currently installed.

As Privateer has already correctly pointed out there has been additional ships scripted into the game since the mod evolved, so they will show up as black icons. http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9...humbsuprw5.gif

I don't want to state the bleeding obvious here (and I maybe wrong cos it's been a long time) but Stock SH3 had 3 types of Contact marker. 1 x Friendly, 1 x Neutral & 1 x Enemy (for Large, Medium, Small & Individual) contacts. So the correct TGA files are already there. I can't remember if they are in the Textures or Misc folder but for these types of contacts, you should only need to replace these in your current install. Remember, the game knows which vessel is Friend, Foe or Neutral and when.;)

The only problem comes at higher zoom levels where you can actually see the outline of the ship (i.e xxx_shp.tga). If you want these to be replaced with colour coded icons, you need to individually replace each TGA in each ship folder.

Personally, a good balance would be coloured map contacts with grey ship icons.

The Alpha channels in these TGA's should not govern the colour as SH3 only uses this channel as transparency.

The grey sunk icons are for when a ship is either sunk by someone/something else or by you if you did not identify the ship first. For instance, a destroyer sunk by a manually targeted acoustic torpedo would show up as gray after it sunk if you had never raised your scope to identify the warship and had merely fired 'blind'. This is true even if Auto-Identify is turned on.
